(TJV NEWS) Israel’s Eurovision contestant Noam Bettan advanced to the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna after securing enough votes during Thursday night’s semifinal performance.
Bettan performed the song “Michelle” in French, Hebrew, and English at the Wiener Stadthalle arena in Austria’s capital, as chants of “stop the genocide” could reportedly be heard at the beginning of the live broadcast.
According to Austria’s Österreich newspaper, two individuals accused of disrupting the performance were physically removed from the venue by security personnel during the event.
Israel’s Kan public broadcaster reported that after leaving the stage, Bettan said he ignored the hostility inside the arena and instead focused on Israeli supporters in attendance.
“I didn’t let the boos bother me, I focused on the Israeli flags,” Bettan said, according to Kan.
The semifinal results were determined through a combination of public voting and jury voting from participating countries. The European Broadcasting Union traditionally releases the detailed vote breakdown only after the Eurovision grand final concludes.
