(TJV NEWS) A deeply disturbing new report examining the Hamas-led October 7 massacre in Israel is renewing global attention on allegations that sexual violence was systematically used during the terror attack, with investigators and survivors describing atrocities that experts say may constitute crimes against humanity.
According to reporting by CNN, the newly released findings allege that Hamas terrorists and affiliated attackers carried out widespread acts of rape, sexual assault, mutilation, and abuse during the October 7, 2023 assault on southern Israel. The report, cited repeatedly by CNN, argues that sexual violence was not isolated, but rather formed part of a broader campaign of terror during the attack.
The report was compiled by an independent Israeli commission that reviewed extensive evidence, including survivor testimony, witness accounts, photographs, video footage, forensic analysis, and interviews with medical personnel and first responders. CNN reported that investigators examined thousands of visual records and hundreds of testimonies in an effort to reconstruct the scale of the atrocities committed during the massacre.
Claims of Systematic Abuse
According to CNN’s coverage of the findings, investigators concluded there was evidence suggesting that sexual violence was “systematic and widespread” during the October 7 attacks. The report alleges that women, men, and even minors were subjected to brutal abuse during the massacre and in some cases during captivity in Gaza.
Investigators reportedly identified repeated patterns across multiple attack sites, including the Nova music festival, kibbutzim near the Gaza border, military installations, roadsides, and hostage holding locations. Victims were allegedly found bound, partially clothed or naked, mutilated, and in some cases executed after sexual assault.
CNN noted that many of the victims were unable to testify because they were murdered during the attacks, complicating efforts to gather direct evidence. As a result, much of the investigation relied on forensic material, eyewitness testimony, and digital evidence recovered after the massacre.
Survivors and Former Hostages Speak Out
CNN reported that the findings include testimony from survivors and former hostages who described traumatic abuse both during the initial attack and while being held captive in Gaza. Some survivors have publicly discussed their experiences, while others reportedly spoke confidentially with investigators, doctors, and trauma specialists.
The report also alleges that some hostages endured ongoing sexual violence during captivity, echoing earlier concerns raised by international observers and human rights investigators.
In previous findings cited by CNN and international organizations, United Nations officials said there were “reasonable grounds” to believe acts of rape and sexualized torture occurred during the October 7 attacks and while some hostages were held in Gaza.
International Scrutiny Intensifies
The allegations have reignited demands for international accountability and further investigations into possible war crimes connected to the October 7 massacre.
Legal experts cited in CNN’s reporting argue that the alleged use of sexual violence appears consistent with tactics historically associated with terror campaigns and genocidal violence designed to traumatize entire populations.
The findings are expected to intensify pressure on international institutions, including the United Nations and international courts, to formally investigate the allegations and pursue prosecutions where possible.
The report’s release also comes amid ongoing debate surrounding the global response to the October 7 atrocities. Many Jewish organizations and advocates have accused parts of the international community of minimizing or dismissing evidence of sexual violence committed during the attacks.
Hamas Denies Allegations
Hamas has repeatedly denied accusations that its fighters committed rape or sexual assault during the October 7 massacre. The terror organization has called for independent international investigations into the allegations.
Nonetheless, the growing body of testimony, forensic analysis, and investigative reporting has continued to strengthen international scrutiny surrounding the events of October 7.
CNN noted that investigators believe the full scope of the crimes may never be fully known due to the chaos of the attacks, the destruction of evidence, and the deaths of many victims.
Renewed Focus on Justice
As Israel continues to pursue legal and military action against Hamas following the October 7 massacre, the new report is likely to deepen international focus on the human toll of the attacks and the long-term trauma suffered by survivors and families.
For many Israelis, the allegations detailed in the report reinforce the view that October 7 represented not only a terror assault, but one of the most horrific mass atrocities against Jews in modern history.
CNN reported that legal experts and advocacy groups are now calling for a coordinated international effort to preserve evidence, document survivor testimony, and ensure that alleged perpetrators are ultimately brought to justice.
