Second Suspect Nabbed in Brutal NYC Drive-By That Killed 7-Month-Old Baby

A second suspect accused in the horrific Brooklyn drive-by shooting that left a 7-month-old baby dead has been captured following a multi-day manhunt, the NY Post reported.

Matthew Rodriguez, 18, was taken into custody in Pennsylvania after authorities tracked him out of New York, with NYPD detectives working alongside the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force to locate and arrest him, the NY Post reported.

Police say Rodriguez allegedly drove the moped used in the shooting, transporting the suspected gunman, 21-year-old Amuri Greene, who opened fire on a street corner in Brooklyn. The bullets struck infant Kaori Patterson, killing her, and grazed her 2-year-old brother, the NY Post reported.

Investigators believe the attack was not aimed at the children but instead targeted their father, who was nearby at the time of the shooting. The gunfire, however, missed its intended target with devastating consequences, the NY Post reported.

Greene, identified as the alleged shooter, was arrested earlier after showing up at a Brooklyn hospital with a broken leg—injuries police say were sustained when the suspects crashed their moped into a car while fleeing the scene, the NY Post reported.

The shocking daylight attack unfolded in Brooklyn when the suspects rode up on a moped and began firing into a crowd. The infant was struck in the head while sitting in a stroller and later pronounced dead, in what officials have described as a senseless act of violence, the NY Post reported.

Rodriguez’s arrest brings a major development in the case, though charges against him were still pending at the time of his capture. Authorities continue to piece together the full circumstances behind the attack as the city reels from the tragedy, the NY Post reported.
