Bar-Ilan University Awards Honorary Doctorate to the President of Argentina

Edited by: TJVNews.com

Bar-Ilan University, on Monday, awarded an honorary doctorate to the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, in recognition of his longstanding partnership with the State of Israel and his public international stance against antisemitism.

The degree was awarded in appreciation of President Milei’s diplomatic support for the State of Israel, and in particular his firm commitment to international efforts to secure the return of Israeli hostages held captive by Hamas in Gaza. Throughout his tenure, President Milei has expressed clear solidarity with Israel and its citizens and has worked to strengthen ties between the two countries on the diplomatic and international stage. The ceremony took place in the presence of the President of Bar-Ilan University, Prof. Arie Zaban.

Freed hostages from the Argentine community in Israel, who were abducted to Gaza on October 7, 2023, and later released from Hamas captivity, attended the ceremony with their families as honored guests of the university and the President of Argentina. Among those in attendance: Iair Horn, David Cunio, Sharon Cunio, Luis Har, Clara Marman, Dalia Kushnir, Silvia Cunio, Luis Cunio, and Yaakov Israel.

Bar-Ilan University views the awarding of honorary degrees as an expression of appreciation for individuals who promote values of excellence, leadership, and contribution to society and the international community.

Bar-Ilan University President Prof. Arie Zaban: “In one of the most difficult and painful periods for the Jewish people, President Milei has proven himself a true friend of our country. President Milei did not stand by while members of the Argentine and South American community in Israel were kidnapped to Gaza by Hamas terrorists and held in inhumane conditions. He gave voice to the hostages and their families and worked tirelessly to bring them home to their loved ones. For this, we express our deep gratitude.”

Bar-Ilan University views the awarding of honorary degrees as an expression of appreciation for individuals who advance values of excellence, leadership, and contribution to society and the international community. President Milei joins a distinguished group of honorary doctorate recipients that includes US President George H.W. Bush, Israeli President Shimon Peres, and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
