Despite suffering yet another defeat at the ballot box, Republican gadfly Curtis Sliwa is already signaling he may not be done chasing New York City’s top political office.

As the NY Post reported, Sliwa — the founder of the Guardian Angels and one of the city’s most recognizable political personalities — is floating the possibility of another run for mayor in 2029, even after falling short in his latest bid to win Gracie Mansion.

The longtime activist and radio host has now become something of a fixture in New York politics, repeatedly launching underdog campaigns that generate headlines but have so far failed to translate into victory at the polls.

Speaking after the election, Sliwa suggested he still believes he has unfinished business and made clear he has no intention of quietly stepping away from city politics.

According to the NY Post, Sliwa said his political future remains very much an open question, with another mayoral campaign potentially on the table as he continues to push his law-and-order message and criticize Democratic leadership at City Hall.

Sliwa has spent years branding himself as the outsider willing to challenge New York’s political establishment.

His campaigns have focused heavily on public safety, subway crime, homelessness, quality-of-life concerns and criticism of progressive criminal justice reforms that many voters blame for contributing to disorder across the five boroughs.

Throughout his most recent campaign, Sliwa hammered city leadership over what he described as failed policies that have left New Yorkers frustrated with rising concerns about safety and affordability.

The NY Post reported that while Sliwa acknowledged the uphill battle Republicans face in overwhelmingly Democratic New York City, he argued there remains a significant bloc of voters dissatisfied with the current direction of the city.

Political observers note that Sliwa’s continued presence in city politics reflects both his personal persistence and the Republican Party’s ongoing struggle to field viable citywide candidates.

Despite his colorful public persona and decades of name recognition through the Guardian Angels, Sliwa has repeatedly struggled to broaden his coalition beyond core conservative and outer-borough voters.

Still, his campaigns often attract attention because of his relentless retail politicking, media savvy and willingness to sharply criticize policies embraced by the city’s Democratic leadership.

The NY Post noted that Sliwa has indicated he plans to remain politically active regardless of whether he formally launches another campaign.

That likely means continuing his frequent media appearances, public criticism of City Hall and advocacy on public safety issues that have defined much of his public life.

A 2029 run would mark yet another attempt for the political veteran to finally break through after years of electoral disappointment.

Whether New Yorkers are willing to give him another shot remains uncertain.

But if Sliwa’s latest comments are any indication, he is not ready to fade from the city’s political stage just yet.
