Erin Muckey, MD, MBA, a board-certified emergency medicine physician with extensive leadership experience, has been appointed vice president and chief medical officer of Northwell Greenwich Village Hospital (NGVH). She will partner with hospital and health system leadership to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and support the continued growth and expansion of services in downtown Manhattan.
Prior to joining Northwell Health, Dr. Muckey held dual leadership roles at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and University Hospital (Rutgers-NJMS) in Newark, serving as associate chief medical officer of the hospital and medical director of the emergency department. In these roles, she led hospital-wide quality initiatives that helped reduce readmissions and mortality rates while strengthening care pathways across key services, including stroke, behavioral health and maternal health. She also directed operations and strategic planning for a high-volume emergency room with over 107,000 annual visits and a Level I trauma center.
Dr. Muckey has been widely recognized for her commitment to clinical excellence and improving patient care. She received the 2023 Chancellor’s Excellence in Clinical or Healthcare Delivery Award from Rutgers and was selected as a fellow in the institution’s Academic Leadership Program.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Muckey is dedicated to academic medicine and developing the next generation of health care leaders. She served as an associate professor in the department of emergency medicine and as an assistant program director for the Healthcare Administration and Leadership Fellowship at Rutgers-NJMS She has also published peer-reviewed research on topics ranging from pandemic-related emergency department operations to improving breast cancer screening for underserved populations.
Committed to advancing standards of care, Dr. Muckey is an active member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), serving as a director and faculty member of ACEP’s ED Directors Academy. She also serves on ACEP’s Quality and Patient Safety and Health Innovation Technology Committees. She is a nationally recognized speaker focusing on innovation and improving care in a rapidly evolving health care environment.
Dr. Muckey graduated cum laude from Princeton University and earned both an MD from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and an MBA from Columbia Business School. She completed her residency in emergency medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital Center, where she served as chief resident.
