(TJV NEWS) Roughly 1,700 National Guard troops are being activated across 19 states as part of President Donald Trump’s sweeping crackdown on illegal immigration and violent crime, Fox News reported Friday.

The states where mobilizations are planned, according to Fox News, include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming. The operations are expected to run from August through mid-November.

Citing defense officials, Fox News detailed that Guardsmen will serve as a visible deterrent and as a “support pillar” in federal immigration enforcement. They will assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by handling case management, transportation, logistical support, and administrative functions such as collecting personal data, fingerprinting, DNA swabs, and photographing individuals in custody.

While the mobilizations will integrate with federal efforts, Stars and Stripes noted that National Guard personnel will remain under the command of their respective governors.

The deployments coincide with a broader campaign by Trump to address both illegal migration and violent crime. In Washington, D.C., violent crime fell by 22 percent in the past week following a series of federal measures announced by the president, Breitbart News reported. Those steps included invoking Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which placed the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control, and activating the National Guard to reinforce security.

The efforts came after a spate of violence in the capital, including the June 30 killing of a young congressional intern.

Meanwhile, on the immigration front, The New York Times recently reported that Trump’s deputies are on pace to deport 400,000 illegal migrants during his first year back in office — a figure highlighted by Breitbart News in its coverage.

Together, the actions represent the most aggressive use of federal authority on domestic security and immigration since Trump returned to the White House in January, according to Breitbart News, Fox News, Stars and Stripes, and The New York Times.
