The hostages’ identities have yet to be confirmed by Israel

The Red Cross has confirmed it received 2 Israeli hostages into its care, following claims from Hamas that it had released 2 captives without anything in return from Israel.

The identities of the two Israelis have not been confirmed by officials, though Hamas released the names of two hostages, Yocheved Lifshitz, 85, and Nurit Cooper, 80, both residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz. Both women only hold Israeli citizenship.

Hamas claimed that it released the captives for “compelling humanitarian reasons,” despite Israel’s continued “violations.” The release came after negotiations mediated by Qatar and Egypt, according to Hamas, which later edited the statement to exclude Hamas.

Both women’s husbands, Oded Lifshitz and Amiram Cooper, continue to be held hostage in Gaza.

An Israeli team is said to be en route to Rafah crossing to receive the hostages.
