NYC Gun Violence Continues for 12th Straight Week; Nearly Four Dozen Shot

Over the weekend, close to four dozen people were injured in shootings, as New York City posts its 12th consecutive week of increased gun violence, as reported by the NY Post.  In a matter of hours on Sunday, there were six shootings across NYC.

As the Post reported, the first incident, was on Sunday after 10:30 p.m., when a 34-year-old was shot in the chest in Brooklyn, near the NYCHA Howard Houses at 280 Stone Avenue in Brownsville. The victim, whose name was not released, died from the injury at Brookdale Hospital, as per police.

Next, at 1 a.m. in Chelsea, in a domestic dispute, a woman shot her 35-year-old boyfriend in the leg and wrist inside the Renaissance Hotel at Sixth Avenue and East 25th Street, police said.  The man was expected to survive the wounds.  Roslyn Barker, the 41-year-old woman, was taken into custody with the charges pending.

In the third shooting, about an hour later, near Dorchester Road and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, a 46-year-old man was shot in the leg, as per police. The man was taken to Kings County Hospital and is expected to recover.

After midnight on Monday, in The Bronx at 2134 Vyse Avenue, a 53-year-old man was shot in the leg, police said.

In East Flatbush, a man was shot in the buttocks near the corner of East 93rd Street and East New York Avenue just after 12:15 a.m., police said. He was taken to Kings County Hospital, and his injuries were also not life-threatening.

In the final incident, only 15 minutes later, in Bedford-Stuyvesant, outside 660 Gates Avenue, a 26-year-old man was hit in the left arm and a 45-year-old man had his right arm grazed by a bullet, police said. Both victims were in stable condition by Monday morning.

As per NYPD data, police reported a total of 35 shootings with 45 gun violence victims from Friday through Sunday.  NYC’s alarming increase in gun violence has continued for 12 weeks straight, with police data pointing to 350 more shootings, 460 more victims and 70 more murders in comparison to the same time period last year.
