At a press briefing, Mayor Bill de Blasio said there was a “profound disparity” about seven weeks into the city’s vaccination program. De Blasio was quick to blame “white privilege” as the reason.
“Clearly, what we see is a particularly pronounced reality of many more people from white communities getting vaccination than folks from Black and Latino communities,” de Blasio told reporters.
According to NYC data extrapolated by the NY Post:
Of the 297,166 adult city residents to receive at least one dose of the two-dose vaccine who provided racial demographic data, 48 percent are white, according to the figures, current as of Sunday morning.
Asian and Latino communities each comprise about 15 percent of vaccine recipients who provided their race, while black New Yorkers make up about 11 percent of the pool.
By comparison, 32 percent of city residents are white, 29 percent Hispanic, 22 percent black and 14 percent Asian, according to census data dating to 2019.
Of vaccine recipients age 65 or older who provided racial data, 58 percent are white, compared to 13 percent Latino, 11 percent Asian and nine percent black.
Mayor de Blasio claims that minority communities have less access to the vaccine, which leftist sloganeering and is not empirically proven, however the mayor did point out: “We’ve got a profound problem of distrust and hesitancy, particularly in communities of color,” he said.
He continued saying: “We’ve got a problem of privilege, clearly, where folks who have been privileged have been able to access the [vaccines] with greater ease.
“We’ve got to have a more systematic approach to ensuring that we focus on the places where the danger is greatest,” de Blasio continued.
The vaccine distribution program has been based on high-risk groups based on age and profession, nothing empirically indicates at all that “white privilege “has anything to do with it.
“The mayor is spouting social justice slogans about his own vaccine distribution in the city he runs, he claims white privilege is why minorities are not getting the vaccine, if anything he is attacking his own policies, politicians like de Blasio are so used to reciting slogans, they don’t even make sense anymore. Cuomo and de Blasio are distributing the vaccine based on profession, health care workers and elderly were first in line, many minorities are in the health care profession, it is simple minorities are skeptical of the vaccine, based on history, Tuskegee syphilis experiment perhaps”, editorial writer Jared Evan told TJV news.
