Marine Veteran Turns the Tables on Armed Teen Carjackers in Maryland

(TJV NEWS) A former U.S. Marine is being praised for his quick thinking after fighting off four teenagers who allegedly tried to rob him at gunpoint while he was working on his truck in broad daylight in Maryland.

The dramatic incident happened Tuesday afternoon in Oxon Hill, just outside Washington, D.C., according to surveillance footage and reports cited by the New York Post.

The veteran, identified as Jheyco Borda, was unloading and working on his vehicle when four hooded teens approached him. Video shows the suspects surrounding Borda before one of them allegedly pointed a handgun directly at his head and demanded his keys and cell phone.

But the suspected robbers quickly discovered they had picked the wrong target.

According to reports, Borda relied on his Marine Corps combat training and seized an opportunity to grab the firearm from the armed suspect. A struggle broke out immediately as the teens attempted to overpower him.

As the fight unfolded, Borda’s brother rushed from a nearby home to help. During the confrontation, a gunshot was fired, striking the victim’s truck, but no one was injured. Two of the suspects initially attempted to flee while the brothers wrestled with the others.

The brothers eventually managed to subdue two of the suspects and hold them until police arrived. Authorities later took all four teens into custody.

Speaking afterward, Borda credited his military training for helping him react under pressure.

“Once a Marine, always a Marine,” he told local media, explaining that years of training kicked in during the life-or-death encounter.

While grateful that nobody was hurt, Borda said the bullet that struck his truck caused significant damage. He estimated repairs will cost around $2,000 and said the damage is not covered by insurance.

The veteran also reflected on how much worse the situation could have been. He noted that his children, family members, and beloved dog—who often ride in the vehicle—were not present at the time of the attempted carjacking.

The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with many social media users praising the Marine veteran’s courage and composure during the armed confrontation. Meanwhile, Borda is urging others to remain alert and aware of their surroundings as police continue their investigation.
