(TJV NEWS) Despite political claims that fuel costs are under control, new data from GasBuddy suggests millions of Americans are still paying painfully high gasoline prices as the summer driving season begins accelerating nationwide.

According to GasBuddy’s latest fuel market analysis, gas prices remain elevated across much of the country due to strong seasonal demand, refinery maintenance, and ongoing instability in global oil markets. The company warned that while some regional fluctuations are occurring, overall fuel costs continue placing financial pressure on consumers already struggling with inflation and high living expenses. GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan noted that gasoline prices are likely to remain volatile heading into Memorial Day and the broader summer travel season, traditionally one of the busiest driving periods of the year.

“Americans are still paying historically expensive prices for fuel in many areas,” GasBuddy indicated, cautioning that global oil market disruptions could quickly push prices even higher.

Summer Driving Season Raising Demand

The summer months typically lead to increased gasoline consumption as families travel, businesses ramp up transportation activity, and vacation season intensifies.

GasBuddy warned that refinery outages, hurricane season risks, and geopolitical tensions involving major oil-producing regions remain major threats to price stability.

Analysts also pointed to uncertainty surrounding OPEC production decisions and Middle East instability as factors that could sharply impact crude oil markets in the weeks ahead.

For commuters, delivery drivers, and working-class families heavily dependent on vehicle travel, gasoline prices remain one of the most visible daily economic burdens.

Trump Briefly Weighs In on Fuel Costs

President Donald Trump also commented on gasoline prices during a recent public appearance, highlighted by Mediaite.

Trump argued current prices were “peanuts” compared to earlier spikes seen during previous energy crises, while defending his administration’s broader energy policies.

However, energy analysts say many consumers continue feeling squeezed regardless of political messaging, particularly in states where gas prices remain well above national averages.

Americans Still Feeling Economic Pressure

Even relatively small increases at the pump can significantly impact household budgets, especially as Americans continue confronting elevated housing costs, insurance premiums, groceries, and transportation expenses.

GasBuddy stressed that volatility remains the defining characteristic of today’s fuel markets, meaning sudden geopolitical events or supply disruptions could rapidly trigger new price increases.

For now, Americans may be hoping for relief at the pump — but according to GasBuddy’s latest outlook, expensive gasoline remains a stubborn reality heading into one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
