(TJV NEWS) A new chapter in one of the NBA’s most storied rivalries is about to unfold as the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks face off in the Eastern Conference semifinals. This marks the first playoff meeting between the two franchises since 2013 and their first postseason clash beyond the first round since 1984, when Boston defeated New York in a dramatic Game 7.

The Celtics, fresh off eliminating the Orlando Magic in five games, are looking to return to the Eastern Conference Finals for the fourth consecutive year. Meanwhile, the Knicks battled through a tough six-game series against the Detroit Pistons and are eager to make their first conference finals appearance since 2000.

While the Celtics swept the Knicks 4-0 during the regular season—winning three of those games by double digits—the Knicks are hoping their blockbuster offseason moves will pay off. The addition of Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges was meant to push New York over the top in matchups like this, but the team has yet to show it can handle Boston’s potent offense.

Celtics star Jayson Tatum dominated the regular season series, averaging 33.5 points per game while shooting 53.5% from the field and nearly 48% from beyond the arc. Boston’s team offense also shined, averaging 125 points and shooting 50% from the floor and over 43% on three-pointers in those four games.

If the Knicks can’t find a way to contain Boston’s firepower and cool off Tatum, they may find themselves outmatched once again. But with the stakes high and the rivalry renewed, anything can happen in what promises to be an electric series.
