(TJV NEWS) A normally quiet stretch of Queens turned into a chaotic scene early Saturday morning as a large “car takeover” drew crowds, fire, and dangerous stunts into the streets.

The mayhem unfolded around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of 69th Street and Eliot Avenue, where the NYPD responded to reports of a large group creating disturbances. Officers arriving on the scene encountered more than 100 vehicles involved in the disorderly gathering.

Videos captured by witnesses show drivers spinning wildly in circles, performing burnouts as crowds cheered them on. Flames could be seen blazing in the middle of the roadway, creating a hazardous environment for both participants and onlookers. In one clip, an individual leaned out of an SUV waving a large Palestinian flag while the vehicle narrowly avoided hitting people nearby.

Local political consultant Ryan Girdusky said the incident was unlike anything he had seen in the neighborhood, describing the area as typically calm and middle class.

As police moved in to shut down the gathering, participants quickly fled the scene, leaving behind damage and few consequences.

NYC Councilman Phil Wong condemned the incident, calling it “disgusting” and warning that this kind of reckless behavior is eroding the quality of life for residents. He also revealed that three individuals jumped on top of an NYPD patrol vehicle during the chaos, smashing its windshield.

Despite the scale of the disruption, authorities reported no arrests and only a single summons issued, raising concerns about enforcement and accountability.

Wong defended the efforts of police officers but argued they need stronger support from elected officials, prosecutors, and the courts. He said officers are too often second-guessed or criticized instead of being backed when they take action
