Sometimes things are not what they seem, and this appears to be the case with the alleged kidnapping in Gravesend Brooklyn

The NYPD had released surveillance footage last week showing a man grabbing the supposed victim and carrying her in his arms to the waiting van at the intersection of Avenue W and Stillwell Avenue in Gravesend, The NY Post reported.

Cops began investigating after a witness called early Friday to report the disturbing sight. But the NYPD said Monday that its Major Case Squad was able to track down the man and woman and determined that no crime was committed.

An NYPD spokesperson said the pair knew each other, but not what their exact relationship was.

“Both parties were known to each other, and it was deemed to have not been a crime,” the spokesperson said Monday.

Previously TVJ News reported, People.com reported that the Crime Stoppers account tweeted that the “kidnapping” incident occurred on the corner of Avenue W and Stillwell Avenue, near the Marlboro Housing Project in the Gravesend at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Friday, and that the suspect is a male with a late model Toyota minivan.

Police said that the unknown victim is in her 20s and described her as being approximately 5’5”, around 120 pounds, and having long hair, according to a report on Gothamist.com.  Investigators said she was last seen wearing a striped shirt, blue skirt and white sneakers. The suspect then picked her up and carried her to his van before taking off on Stillwell Avenue.

The kidnapper was believed to be a male in his 30s, about 5-foot-10-inches tall and weighing 175 pounds, People.com reported.  Pictures captured of the incident show him wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, dark pants and black shoes.

Police also released a set of photos of the incident, showing the suspect waving his arms to the woman on the street, People.com reported.  A second photo showed the suspect holding what appears to be the alleged victim in his arms as he carried her to his car.

Speaking to the New York Post, a high-ranking source in the police department said that investigators assigned to the case were not able to identify the woman who was allegedly kidnapped and had no information as to whether she knew or was familiar with the suspect.

“She didn’t appear to be struggling like you would if it was a stranger,” the source told the Post.

The source also told the Post that as part of their investigation, police are canvassing videos in the area to see where the man and woman came from before the incident happened, as was reported by People.com. The source added that, “It’s kind of a mystery now.”

Early in the investigation, a police source acknowledged that the victim “didn’t appear to be struggling like you would if it was a stranger”, the NY Post pointed out.

“The radical Democrat party will blame the local media for hyping up crime as the city’s increase in crime is directly the result of their policies of tolerating , crimes like shoplifting, fare beating, illegal electric scooters, unlicensed moped and motorcycle drivers terrorizing the public, public defecation, public heroin use, I could go on, the left has destroyed civility in the city and complain the media and conservatives sensationalize crime, these people are the enemy of humanity”, a frustrated Bronx anti-crime activist told TJV News.
