Comedian Amy Schumer has sold her Upper West Side penthouse, as per a listing update on Street Easy.
The Penthouse apartment on River Drive was last asking $15 million, and while reports confirmed the home was under contract, the price sold has not yet been disclosed, as per the NY Post. Schumer had purchased the home in 2016 for $12.14 million. The proud new owner of the home is Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Benj Pasek, known for hit songs including “Dear Evan Hansen” and “LaLa Land,” the Wall Street Journal reported.
Schumer, the 41-year-oldactress, stand-up comedian, writer, producer, and director, is famous for starring in NBC Reality competition “Last Comic Standing”, as well as dozens of movies and TV shows including “Snatched”, “Trainwreck”, “Life & Beth” and “Inside Amy Schumer”. Her father was a Ukrainian Jew, and though her mother was a Protestant, she converted to Judaism before the marriage. Born in New York City, Schumer was raised as a Jew and has said she faced anti-Semitism as a child. She is second cousins with U.S. Senator and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. She also authored a memoir, entitled “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo”, in 2016, which made it to The New York Times Non-Fiction Best Seller list.
Schumer had once described the penthouse as a dream home. The 5-bedroom, 5-and-a-half bathroom home is located at 190 Riverside Drive, above the landmarked Beaux-Arts building. The two-story apartment boasts 4,500 square feet of space, plus 3,000 square feet of outdoor space. The home features a row of skylights and glass walls that open to a wraparound, landscaped terrace. The solarium-style living room has amazing views of the George Washington Bridge, the Hudson River and the NYC skyline. There is an oversized eat-in chef’s kitchen, also with outdoor access. The home has a separate bedroom wing, and the main bedroom suite has a private terrace, a spa-like bath and plenty of closet space. The flora-filled home has lots of sunlight, and several fireplaces.
Schumer has come a long way from her humble beginnings. “I’m someone who came from having to share a bed with my mom,” Schumer had previously told the Wall Street Journal, sharing that they “had no money.” Schumer also disclosed that she once shared a studio apartment in Chinatown with a stranger she found on Craigslist.
As reported by the NY Post, last year Schumer and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, purchased the “Moonstruck” townhouse in Brooklyn Heights. The 19th-century home, is a 26-foot-wide property, made famous by Cher and Nicolas Cage in the 1987 movie, “Moonstruck.” The townhouse at 19 Cranberry Street, which was once owned by architect Edwards Rullman, sold for $12.5 million—or $1.5 million above the asking price, per Gimme Shelter. After their son, Gene, was born she said the move to Brooklyn was just a matter of time. “It’s pretty obvious where we are going,” she told the WSJ. “If you leave this borough, what borough do people usually move to? It’s not rocket science.”
