FIFA World Cup 2026: Early Surprises, Big Crowds, and Strong Starts From Hosts

FIFA World Cup 2026: Early Surprises, Big Crowds, and Strong Starts From Hosts

(Jewish Voice News) The first few days of the 2026 FIFA World Cup have already delivered drama, surprises, and packed stadiums across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

USA Makes Statement in Tournament Opener

The United States opened its World Cup campaign in impressive fashion with a 4-1 victory over Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The Americans looked sharp from the opening whistle and immediately established themselves as contenders in Group D.

The result was one of the most convincing performances of the tournament’s opening round and gave U.S. fans plenty of optimism as the competition moves forward.

Mexico Delivers in Front of Home Crowd

Host nation Mexico got the tournament started with a 2-0 victory over South Africa at the historic Estadio Azteca.

More than 80,000 fans packed the stadium, creating an electric atmosphere as Mexico collected three crucial points in Group A.

Morocco Stuns Brazil

One of the biggest surprises so far came when Morocco held five-time World Cup champion Brazil to a 1-1 draw.

Brazil entered the tournament as one of the favorites, but Morocco matched them throughout the contest and earned a valuable point. Young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi was among the standout performers, helping Morocco control stretches of the match against the South American giants.

The draw has left Group C wide open heading into the second round of matches.

Scotland Tops Group C

Scotland quietly produced one of the tournament’s most important early results, defeating Haiti 1-0.

The victory moved Scotland to the top of Group C ahead of both Brazil and Morocco after the opening round. While the tournament is still young, Scotland has positioned itself well for a potential trip to the knockout stage.

Germany Sends Message

Germany recorded the largest victory of the tournament so far, crushing Curaçao 7-1.

Midfielder Jamal Musiala starred in the rout and continued his rise as one of world soccer’s brightest young stars. Germany’s dominant performance immediately established the four-time champions as one of the teams to watch.

Stadiums Packed Across North America

Despite scattered reports of transportation issues, fan support has been enormous.

According to FIFA attendance figures, the first eight matches averaged more than 63,000 spectators, with stadiums operating at nearly full capacity. Matches involving Mexico, the United States, and Brazil all attracted crowds exceeding 70,000 fans.

What to Watch Next

Several marquee matchups are still to come in the opening round, including Netherlands vs. Japan, England vs. Croatia, France vs. Senegal, and Argentina vs. Algeria. Early results have already shown that traditional powers cannot afford to overlook emerging nations in the tournament’s expanded 48-team format.

After only a handful of matches, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has already produced upsets, breakout stars, and unforgettable atmospheres. If the opening days are any indication, soccer fans could be in for one of the most unpredictable World Cups in recent memory.
