Celebrity Dermatologist’s Divorce Drama Adds Intrigue to Hamptons Social Scene

Edited by: TJVNews.com

A high-profile divorce involving celebrity dermatologist Dr. Howard Sobel has become a hot topic of discussion in the Hamptons social scene this late summer, as was reported by the New York Post. The “King of Lipo,” known for his impressive clientele list that includes names like Katie Couric, Luann de Lesseps, and Ramona Singer, is in the spotlight after the Post’s Page Six published a report detailing the dramatic breakup between him and his ex-wife Brittney.

The divorce has turned Sobel into a newly single figure in the Hamptons, with rumors swirling about his interactions at social events, according to the Page Six report in the Post. Reports emerged that he was seen “chatting up women” at the Northwell Health Katz Institute for Women’s Health event in Water Mill. Observers labeled him the “hot new bachelor on the Hamptons scene,” describing him as having obtained a woman’s phone number, the spies from the Post’s Page Six reported. However, Sobel quickly refuted these claims, stating that he was not in the mood for romantic pursuits.

“He’s the hot new bachelor on the Hamptons scene,” one witness said of Sobel — who is accused of being an “abusive and controlling husband” in incendiary court papers filed by ex-Brittney, Page Six reported. For his part, Dr. Sobel has denied the accusations. “I saw him get a woman’s phone number,” the witness added.

“I handed my card to someone who wanted to come into the office,” Sobel, who is worth $30 million according to the court docs, told the Post.

Sobel explained that he had given his business card to someone who sought medical advice, rather than engaging in flirtatious conversations, according to the Post’s Page Six. He attended the event with a male friend and asserted that his interactions were cordial and not indicative of a man seeking companionship. The Post also reported that despite his efforts to keep a low profile, his presence and appearance drew attention and sparked conversations among the attendees.

Speaking to the Post’s Page Six, the renowned dermatologist said, “I got up from my chair once. I was home at 9:30 pm. That’s not exactly a guy looking to meet women. Everyone was talking to everyone. I talked to a woman I knew and one I didn’t know.”

The source for the Post’s Page Six report said that Sobel was “all dressed up,” during the charity event that included a musical performance by singer Paula Abdul and drew such prominent personalities as Fox News’ Rosanna Scotto, Norman and Mia Rowe, Fern Mallis, Eric Moran, Jewish Voice society writer, Lieba Nesis.

The Post’s Page Six source also said that Sobel “looked great” despite that fact that he is 72 years old.

The Post’s Page Six exclusively reported last week that Sobel and Brittney had filed for divorce in May after six years of marriage.

The divorce proceedings between Sobel and Brittney have been contentious, with allegations of abuse and control coming from both sides, as was reported by the Post.  Sobel denies the claims made against him, including allegations of surveillance and false harassment accusations. As was reported by the Post, the divorce case also involves child support payments for their daughter, who reportedly faces certain challenges. As was reported by the Post, the court documents suggest that the delay in child support payments is more about control than financial constraints.

Sobel’s legal team has countered these claims, asserting that he is unable to make the requested child support payments and has challenged the extent of his daughter’s needs, the Post report noted. The divorce proceedings have turned public, with both parties sharing their perspectives in court documents.

Sobel has said that his daughter has “no special needs” and is actually “intellectually advanced for her age,” the Post report said.

He has also claimed his ex has “attempted to extort” more than $9.5 million more than she was “entitled.” A decision has yet to be made on Brittney’s request for the child support order. According to the Post’s Page Six report, the court papers show Dr. Sobel has been paying Brittney $12,500 per month, per their prenup.

A representative for the couple told Page Six in a statement last week, “They are working together to try to resolve the issues of their marriage amicably. They politely ask for privacy for their family at this time.”

Sobel told the Post’s Page Six: “I’d just like to get the divorce over with as amicably as possible. A battle in the court doesn’t suit either spouse or the kids.”

As the divorce drama continues to unfold in the public eye, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will be resolved and how this high-profile case will impact the Hamptons social scene.
