Boat Carrying Illegal Migrants Lands Near Barbra Streisand’s $100M Malibu Mansion
Edited by: TJVNews.com
In an unexpected turn of events, a boat carrying over two dozen suspected illegal migrants washed up on a Malibu beach earlier this week, near the $100 million oceanfront mansion of iconic singer and actress Barbra Streisand, according to a report in the New York Post. The incident has drawn attention, with federal authorities now working to locate and apprehend the individuals who scattered onto the shore from the vessel, the Post report added.
Video footage obtained by Fox News shows the 25-foot panga boat, a type often used by drug traffickers and human smugglers, landing on the beach approximately half a mile from Streisand’s lavish 19-bedroom home, the Post reported. The U.S. Coast Guard received a call about the vessel at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and the LA County Sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills Station later confirmed the discovery of the sunk panga boat off the Malibu coast.
Malibu, an ultra-exclusive enclave along the California coast, is home to several celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Cher, Will Smith, and Jennifer Aniston, as was reported by the Post. Despite its distance from the US southern border with Mexico, it has become an unexpected site for a migrant landing. The incident underscores the challenges of immigration enforcement in unexpected locations.
Streisand, a longtime Democratic donor and vocal critic of former President Trump’s border wall plans, has not yet commented on the incident. As was noted in the Post report, the 81-year-old artist has been outspoken about her political views, expressing strong opposition to Trump’s policies, including his stance on immigration.
In a tweet from 2019, Streisand criticized Trump’s border wall as a monument to his ego, stating, “Trump only cares about this ‘wall’ in order to build a monument to himself,” the Post report said. She has consistently voiced her concerns about the financial and moral implications of such a structure.
Streisand, who campaigned for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, has even pledged to leave the United States if Trump were to be re-elected. The report in the Post said that during an appearance on “The Late Show” last month, the “Funny Girl” star stated, “I can’t live in this country if he becomes president.”
A year earlier she told Vogue magazine that Trump was her inspiration behind the song “Don’t Lie to Me,” according to the Post report. “Unless you’re an American Indian, you know, you’re a child or grandchild or great-grandchild of immigrants, even the president,” she told the magazine.
The incident near Streisand’s mansion highlights the complex challenges faced by authorities in monitoring and preventing illegal immigration, even in affluent and seemingly secure areas. As federal authorities continue their investigation, the event brings attention to the broader issue of rising migrant encounters during the Biden administration, with Customs and Border Protection reporting over 2.48 million encounters in the last fiscal year, the highest on record.
