Spain’s Genocide

Dear Editor:

Guess who committed Europe’s first overseas settler colonial genocide?

Why, it was Spain, whose government is now falsely accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.

Prof. Mohamed Adhikari of the University of Cape Town, writing in the African Historical Review in 2017, described in grim detail the mass atrocities committed by Spanish invaders against the indigenous Guanche people of the Canary Islands beginning in the 15th century, which he called “a clear example of genocide.”

The Guanches had been living in the Canaries, off the coast of Morocco, for more than a thousand years, until the Spanish conquistadors utilized mass violence, slavery, land confiscation and deportations to destroy them.

“Child confiscation and sexual violence” also were “central to the genocidal process” in the Canaries, Prof. Adhikari notes. “After conquest, the remnants of indigenous Canarian societies were subjected to ongoing violence and cultural suppression, which ensured the extinction of their way of life.”

To this day, Spain maintains its illegal occupation of Canarian territory.

Meanwhile, Spain has been busy falsely accusing Israel of genocide.

“What Israel is doing is exterminating a defenseless people,” Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said last week, although somehow 99% of the “exterminated” civilians in Gaza have survived, even according to Hamas’s numbers. (Hamas claims 60,000 fatalities in Gaza in the past two years. At least half of them were terrorists. That leaves 30,000 dead civilians—about 1% of Gaza’s population.)

Spain recognized the non-existent “State of Palestine” last year, to punish Israel for pursuing terrorists in Gaza. In recent days, Prime Minister Sánchez has tightened Spain’s arms embargo against Israel, announced a boycott of many Israeli goods, and recalled Spain’s ambassador from Israel.

Meanwhile, in the Canary Islands, supporters of the Movement for the Self-Determination and Independence of the Canarian Archipelago are wondering when somebody will pay attention to their cause. For some reason, Spain’s prime minister prefers to focus his attention on the demands of the Palestinian Arabs.

Sincerely
Prof. Rafael Medoff

UK Recognizes Palestinian State Despite Opposition from US

Dear Editor:

Israel was known as the British Mandate for Palestine from 1920 to 1948. For 400 years before then it was Ottoman Syria.

In 1867, Mark Twain described the Holy Land as “desolate and unlovely”. Jerusalem had a Jewish majority. Zionists, hoping for peace in a corner of the Ottoman Empire began immigrating. They purchased whatever land they could and set up farming communities. Their productivity sparked envy, but also attracted Arabs seeking work. Both populations grew.

1918 saw the end of WWI and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. At San Remo, in 1920, the victors carved up the Empire, creating a series of mandates, one of which was the Mandate for Palestine, the reconstituted Jewish Homeland. In 1921, Churchill gave 78% of the area, everything east of the Jordan River, to the Hashemites.

The mandate was ratified by the League of Nations in 1922. It laid the groundwork for both the Jewish homeland, Israel, and the Arab state of Transjordan.

The Arab leader in the Jewish part of the mandate was Haj Amin al-Husseini, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. He hated the Jews who made the desert bloom. He launched pogroms against them from 1920 to 1942. He spent WWII in Europe where he organized the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croation), a division of the Nazi Party, charged at Nuremberg with war crimes and crimes against humanity. Husseini was captured by the French who let him escape to Beirut

The United Nations was founded in 1945. Article 80 of its constitution clarifies what was promised the Jews cannot be abrogated. This means any anti-Israel territorial resolutions the UN passes do not have the force of law. They are suggestions, at best.

UN Resolution 181 (1947) was a plan to split the Jewish part of the mandate into Jewish and Arab states. The Zionists accepted, but the Arabs refused to allow the Jews even the tiniest sliver of land.

When Israel announced its independence from Britain, Husseini and 5 armies attacked, vowing to ‘drive the Jews into the sea’. The fighting ended in 1949 in an armistice. 700,000 Arabs had fled. Jordan illegally occupied Judea and Samaria and Egypt captured Gaza. The 30,000 Jews living in these territories were killed or expelled, their synagogues destroyed and their properties turned over to Arab squatters.

The Arabs consider their loss to be a disaster, a Nakba.

In the late 1950s, America became estranged from Egypt over the New Aswan Dam project and the Soviets stepped in. To diminish US influence, the KGB and Egypt established the Palestine liberation Organization in 1964. They recruited Arab fighters from throughout the Middle East and North Africa and called them “Palestinians”.

Their MO was terrorism. They blew up airports and embassies. They hijacked aircraft, murdering passengers. They slaughtered Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics.

They called Israel, Palestine, and Arabs who ever lived in the region, Palestinians. They coopted Judea-Christian history. Jesus became a Palestinian.

The PLO were thrown out of Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon for instigating revolutions, but they made their point. Everyone was aware of Palestinianism.

Jew-haters were happy to jump on the band-wagon and it was the perfect vehicle for left-wing academics and agitators to protest against Western democracies.

It’s now the turn of the United Nations, the epicenter of radical Islam’s war against Judeo-Christian values and cultures. Every vote for a fictional Palestine is a gift to the Russia/China/Qatar cabal and their client, Hamas.
