Are you ready for it? Wonder Woman is coming back June 5th, better than ever, in its very own 1984 setting. Think 80’s music, 80’s fashion, 80’s vibes. Think Chris Pine. Think Gal Gadot!

Warner Brothers gives us this one-liner: “Diana Prince comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah.” Gal Gadot tells us that this Wonder Woman is “quite lonely, she’s lost all of her friends over the years, and she’s doing what she needs to do.”

Patty Jenkins, the director of the film, says: “the message of this movie is something that I deeply believe in and came to us while we were even working on the first movie. I want it to feel like you’re seeing a movie in the ’80s so we did almost all of our stunts, our fights practically. We have some of the most extensive, incredible wire work that was, that nobody’s ever done before because no one has ever tried.” Gal Gadot adds that “it was a lot of work and we’ve tried to make it our own with new fresh things that were never done before and there’s something about our anticipation to share it with the world because it’s been a long, incredible journey for us.”

Setting the film in the 80s allows Gal Gadot’s character to be in a more modern setting, creating a more modern and relatable hero. Jenkins says that “this movie is about colliding Wonder Woman with the evil of our times, which is the excess and opulence that we have found ourselves in a position of indulging— and we’re running her right into mankind at their best and their worst and the villains that are born from that.”

This film not only creates a world of the 80’s but, like the last film, will touch upon inclusion for women and for other races in our society today. Jenkins explains: “it’s super important to me that everybody is accessible to this movie. That becomes an easy thing to do and you’re watching people of all genders and races up on the screen doing this and you’re not thinking about it.”

How many weeks until June 5th? It’s hard not to count down the days to a film starring legendary heroes, filled with themes of women empowerment, inclusion, post-Cold War struggles, and a lead actress who just so happens to be Israel’s superwoman!
