On May 8th of this year, an alleged Israeli whistleblower who is an expert on energy security had gone missing in Cyprus after claiming in a tweet that the Biden administration was out to “bury” him, as was reported by Debra Heine at the American Greatness web site.

On Wednesday, the New York Post reported that Gal Luft, the “missing” witness in the House Oversight Committee’s Biden family corruption investigation, has told the paper that he is alive and living as a fugitive in an undisclosed location.

The Post also reported that Luft, a former Israeli Defense Force colonel, vanished from Cyprus last month while on bail awaiting extradition to the US on seven charges.

Luft has denied the allegations, which include five charges relating to the Arms Export Control Act of conspiring to sell Chinese products to the United Arab Emirates, Kenya and Libya, as well as a violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and of making a false statement, the Post reported.

He has claimed that he was forced to skip bail because he is the victim of a political persecution by the US to protect Joe Biden and his son Hunter, and brother Jim, the report said. “The chances of me getting a fair trial in Washington are virtually zero,” he said in a call from an undisclosed foreign country, explaining why he skipped bail. “I had to do what I had to do,” according to the Post report.  Luft also told the Post that he would not say how he escaped Cyprus because “I don’t want to get people in trouble.”

In February, Dr. Gal Luft, the founder and executive director of the Washington-based Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS), was preparing to reveal damning information about the Biden family’s international business exploits to Congress when the Biden Department of Justice had him arrested on weapon trafficking charges, according to the article on the American Greatness web site.

Luft reportedly told the FBI in 2019 that the Bidens informed a Chinese energy executive that he was the target of a federal investigation, allowing him to flee the country before he could be arrested. According to Luft’s lawyer, the Justice Department is retaliating against his client “with trumped-up and false charges,” the American Greatness report indicated.

Luft was arrested at the Larnaca International airport on February 16, after Interpol issued an arrest warrant against him on suspicion of arms trafficking to China and Libya. According to the Cyprus Mail, the whistleblower was boarding a plane for Israel when local authorities arrested him, American Greatness reported.  Luft was also accused of lying to the FBI and violating the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA), according to his arrest warrant. He’s facing up to 96 years in prison if convicted of the charges.

Luft confirmed his arrest in a tweet two days later.

“I’ve been arrested in Cyprus on a politically motivated extradition request by the U.S.,” he wrote on February 18. “The US, claiming I’m an arms dealer. It would be funny if it weren’t tragic. I’ve never been an arms dealer,” Luft continued. “DOJ is trying to bury me to protect Joe, Jim & Hunter Biden,” the 56-year-old added, threatening to “name names.”

“Dr. Luft is a whistleblower,” Luft’s American attorney Robert Henoch told the Washington Free Beacon back in February. American Greatness reported that Henoch said prosecutors ignored Luft’s information “and are instead targeting him with trumped-up and false charges.” The attorney added: “This unfortunately appears to be part of an attempt to discredit a witness with critical information about an ongoing congressional and DOJ investigation.”

Luft disappeared some time in March after the Larnaca court ordered a conditional discharge for him. The whistleblower posted bail for €150,000 ($165,409.50) and was required to report to the Paphos central police station at regular intervals, according to the Cyprus Mail

Luft told the Post on Wednesday that, “I was charged for a thought crime,” referring to the gun-running allegations, which date from email correspondence five years ago. “I was asked by a bona fide arms dealer, an Israeli friend, to inquire with a company I knew if they had an item and what would be the price of an item. This is where the conspiracy ended. No follow-up, no money, no brokering activity,” Luft said.

House Oversight investigators were preparing to interview him before he disappeared, the Post reported.

“When it was clear the Republicans are going to win the House or the Senate, all of a sudden comes GOP Rep. James Comer and GOP Rep. Jim Jordan and the game is changing. There will be questions and subpoenas and investigations so they [the administration] have to discredit me. I never thought of coming forward. Through 2020 I sat quiet like a fish … “I didn’t want to get caught up in this game, but when they arrested me, I had no choice but to blow it up,” Luft told the Post.
