It’s no secret that in recent years, murders in America have surged. In Democrat-run Chicago, dozens are shot every weekend, and at least a handful die.
Other large cities are similar.
It’s not surprising, given the leftist agenda, adopted and promoted by many Democrats, to “defund police.”
Nor does it help that many leftist prosecutors across the country routinely release homicide suspects on little or no bail, or even dismiss charges.
But now a report from Fox News reveals the cost that the nation will pay: about one out of every 179 Americans will be a murder victim over the course of their lives, “if the country’s murder rate remains at 2021 levels.”
The report with the detailed estimate comes from Just Facts, a nonprofit research institute, and its president, Jim Agresti, authored the study.
It said, “That means if you’re in the United States, you live here, you’re born and you spend your life here, your odds of your life ending by murder are one in 179 over your life. Not over a year or any other timeframe.”
Agresti said, “It’s just somebody’s gonna murder you before you die of natural causes, an accident, suicide, whatever it may be.”
His organization studied how many people were murdered in 2021 by reviewing reports from news outlets and more.
America was flooded with violent crime in 2020, when murders spiked 30%, the largest single-year increase in that category.
“Experts who have previously spoken to Fox News Digital pointed to calls to defund the police, the riots of 2020, the Ferguson effect — when police pull back amid a spike in violent crime and unrest — and the COVID pandemic for contributing to the bloodshed of 2020,” the report said.
FBI estimate suggest the murder death toll last year was somewhere between 21,300 to 24,600.
Just Facts said its study revealed the toll of one victim out of every 179 residents.
“Even in previous years, when murders were much less common, the lifetime likelihood of murder was so shocking to some people that they sent repeated emails to Just Facts insisting it was wrong. Yet, the methodology used by Just Facts to compute this figure was developed by a licensed actuary, double-checked by a Ph.D mathematician and triple-checked by a Ph.D biostatistician,” the study said.
