(TJV NEWS) Two Muslim men with apparent left-wing sympathies have been arrested in Utah after allegedly planting an explosive device under a FOX News affiliate vehicle, an attack authorities say could have caused mass casualties.
According to KSL TV (NBC affiliate), Adeeb Nasir, 58, and his son Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, were taken into custody after the FBI discovered a live explosive device under a news van parked outside an occupied building in Salt Lake City. The van reportedly belonged to a FOX affiliate covering the high-profile murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead last week while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Federal authorities described the device as a “significant threat to public safety.” The Salt Lake City Police Bomb Squad and the Unified Fire Authority Bomb Squad both confirmed it was a real bomb and not a hoax.
The FBI quickly took over the case and raided the Nasirs’ residence in Magna, Utah, on Saturday. Agents reportedly seized multiple weapons, narcotics, and two additional hoax “weapons of mass destruction.” Both suspects, who were inside the home when agents stormed in, are classified as “restricted persons” barred from owning firearms, yet were allegedly found in possession of guns.
While KSL TV highlighted the terrorism charges — including possession of a weapon of mass destruction, attempted aggravated arson, and making terrorist threats — additional reporting revealed the intended target. As noted in a second source, the bomb was deliberately placed under a FOX affiliate news van covering the Kirk case.
Outside the Nasir home, photos and video evidence showed anti-Trump propaganda plastered across the property, including an “Is He Dead Yet?” banner mocking the president. This suggests the attack may have been motivated not only by radical Islamist leanings but also by a toxic blend of left-wing anti-Trump extremism.
The suspects’ arrest comes just days after the assassination of Kirk, a vocal Trump ally, raising concerns that right-leaning figures and media outlets are being specifically targeted by ideologically motivated extremists.
Commentators have already begun drawing comparisons to previous “red-green” alliances — radical leftists teaming up with Islamist sympathizers to target Jews and pro-Israel voices in the West. But as one outlet noted, this case appears to mark the first time the formula has been flipped: Muslim extremists carrying out violence directly against a perceived pro-Trump institution like FOX News.
Both Adeeb and Adil Nasir are being held without bail as investigators comb through evidence linking them to the explosive device. Prosecutors have warned the pair pose a serious risk of flight and an ongoing danger to the public if released.
