A group of far-left activists took to Sen. Josh Hawley’s Washington, DC home to protest his decision to object to President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory.  As reported by the NY Post, the Missouri senator said he was not in DC when the protest took place, and that his wife and baby were inside alone and terrified.   “Antifa scumbags came to our place in DC and threatened my wife and newborn daughter, who can’t travel. They screamed threats, vandalized, and tried to pound open our door,” Hawley (R-Mo.) tweeted on Monday night.

The group which took responsibility, ShutDown DC, described the gathering as “an hour long vigil.”   “We came to let Hawley know that his actions are undemocratic and unacceptable. Voters decided who they wanted to be president and now Hawley is trying to silence their voices, even after Republican election officials certified the vote counts,” said ShutDown DC activist Patrick Young.  The group even proudly posted a video of the full event, hours before Hawley blasted them on Twitter.

The 51-minute video showed about a dozen individuals on the sidewalk outside the senator’s DC home, chanting phrases including “Shame” and “Protect democracy from the GOP.”    At one point, in the video a neighbor of the Hawley’s confronted the protesters before being pulled away.  After a while, police arrived at the site, and eventually told one of the protest organizers that it may be illegal to continue, leading some of the activists to promise to return in the morning.  They left signs and candles at the site.

The group responded to Hawley’s tweet, saying they had done nothing wrong.  “We visited Senator Hawley’s house for around 30 minutes. We sang songs, chanted and shared our stories. A small group of people delivered a copy of the constitution to his door (with Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution dog eared for easy reference),” the group stated in a tweet on Monday night.

Sen. Hawley replied again to say, “Now ‘vigil’ means screaming threats through bullhorns, vandalizing property, pounding on the doors of homes and terrorizing innocent people and children.”

Last Wednesday, Hawley became the first Republican senator to pledge to object to the Electoral College results.  On Jan. 6, he will stand up for President Donald Trump, guaranteeing the GOP POTUS a last chance in his long legal battle to overturn the Presidential election results.
