Hedge Fund titan, Leon Black is back in the news again. Black, the co-founder of Apollo Global Management, said in a court filing on Wednesday that accusations coming his way from a former Russian model that claim that he tried to convince her to have sex with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epsrein are “demonstrably false,” according to NY Post report.
For his part, Black has taken the position that former model Guzel Ganieva :”simply invented” the accusation that there was a connection to Epstein, according to the NY Post report. Ganieva filed suit against Black in June and accused him of raping her as well as of defaming her.
The court filing on Wednesday referred to Ganieva’s amended complaint, which she filed in August. In that complaint she mentioned Black by name. Black now claims that he is in the possession of 2015 tape recordings in which Ganieva says that she never met Epstein, according to the Post report.
“It speaks volumes that these outlandish allegations are only now appearing for the very first time,” the Wednesday filing said, referring to Ganieva’s amended complaint, which she filed in August. It was that complaint that for the first time mentioned Epstein.
Black said in Wednesday’s filing that he has the 2015 tape recordings of Ganieva in which she says she has never met Epstein. He had questioned her at the time about whether she knew him, according to the filing. The Post reported that the filing said, “Common sense dictates that Mr. Black would never have asked such a question were the events described in her Amended Aug. 9 Complaint true.”
Ganieva’s amended complaint added scurrilous allegations to her original claim. It said that in 2008 Black flew her to Florida to have a threesome with Epstein. The Post reported that Ganieva said she refused to have sex with the men despite Epstein’s assistant allegedly warning her that the men were “sex addicts” and that “there will be consequences” for displeasing them, as was reported in the Post.
Had the incident actually happened, Black said in Wednesday’s filing, Ganieva would have recounted meeting Epstein in the 2015 recording. The filing says Ganieva suggested in the recording only that Epstein might have once called her, according to the Post report.
The Post reported that in July, Black had initially filed a preliminary statement, answer and countersuit against Guzel Ganieva. The statement said that he had “irrefutable documentary evidence” the model was guilty of defamation when she alleged that Black raped her.
A few weeks ago, the Post reported that Ganieva apparently modified her original complaint against him by adding scandalous allegations that Black had arranged for her to fly to Florida to have a sexual encounter with the late Jeffrey Epstein, who was known to be a pedophile. Attorneys representing Black said in their court filing that they had a change of heart and would not be pursuing a counterclaim against the model.
In a filing in New York Supreme Court last week that escaped media attention for some unknown reason Black said he did not “intend to assert counterclaims at this time,” as was reported by the New York Post.
The filing indicated, however, that Black’s objective is to be afforded the opportunity to defend himself against the model’s charges which he has categorically denied. Black’s legal team has said that their client doesn’t want a likely motion to dismiss a counterclaim to delay the case, was reported by the Post.
In the filing Black’s attorney, Danya Perry of Perry Guha said his clients “priority is to proceed with discovery as expeditiously as possible, to defend and vindicate himself against her (Ganieva’s) willfully false claims, “according to the Post.
Speaking to the Post, sources close to the matter have said that Black’s team will file a response to Ganieva’s amended claim by the Wednesday deadline, next week.
Ganieva alleged last month that in 2008 while Epstein was serving a prison sentence for soliciting a minor for prostitution, Black flew her in his private jet from Teterboro, NJ, to Palm Beach, Fla., to meet Epstein, whom he had previously referred to as his “best friend.” She alleged that Black hadn’t told her why he wanted to fly her to Florida.
Black in Wednesday’s filing said “aircraft records and flight manifests refute this fabricated story.”
Black has asked New York State Supreme Court Judge David Cohen to dismiss Ganieva’s defamation suit against him.
This battle between Black, the former chairman of the Museum of Modern Art, and the previously relatively unknown Ganieva, began in March when she alleged in a tweet that Black had sexually assaulted her. He hit back in the press claiming she had been extorting money from him. She then filed the original defamation suit before amending it.
