A number of disturbing clips claim that Lihia Lapid, wife of Israeli prime minister Yair Lapid, believes in the New Testament and Jesus, according to a recently published report on the Vois Es Nais web site. The clips also refer to Lapid’s Facebook page, in which a missionary claimed to have seen her at a rally for believers in Jesus.
VIN also reported that Lapid’s page erased this information but a title remained there stating that “Jesus is definitely on the other side.” Lihia Lapid, whose great-grandfather Rabbi Amiel was the rabbi of Tel Aviv, has denied the claims that she believes in Jesus as “ridiculous,” as was reported by VIN. However the title remained on her Facebook page.
Lihi’s sister, Ilil Keren, faced a media firestorm back in November 2021 after her brother-in-law, who was then foreign minister, appointed her to the board of the Jewish National Fund, as was reported by Israel Today.
In the past Yair Lapid has also said that “My ancestral lineage includes Moshe Rabbeinu, Jesus and the Rambam.”
For her part. Lihi Lapid has furiously denied claims that she’s a secret messianic Jew after a series of internet rumors said she was secretly concealing her faith, according to a report in the Jewish Chronicle of London.
Last week, a video of a lecture given by preacher Chaim Malespin went viral with the messianic preacher saying: “We’re in a time with more congregations, more openness to the Gospel.
“Even the government, the Prime Minister’s wife, is a believer right now… Yair Lapid’s wife, Lihi, is a believer, he said. “Like what? This is, what? I mean a confirmed believer. This is crazy stuff going on right now in Israel. Hallelujah! Yeah, we’re living in exciting times.”
The JC.com also reported that sources close to Lihi Lapid, strongly rejected the allegations.
A spokesperson for Yesh Atid called Malespin’s claim “nothing short of ridiculous,” while Mrs Lapid’s spokesperson said: “Somebody said something that is not true. This is the situation. It’s not true. It’s a lie. I don’t know why he said that. I don’t know what his interest is. I don’t know. But it’s a lie,” as was reported by the JC.com.
Interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s wife, Lihi, has a sister who is known to be a Messianic Jew (a Jew who believes in Jesus), as was previously reported by Israel Today.
Israel Today also reported that with elections just days away, that connection to Messianic Judaism is again stirring up Israelis on social media, with some wondering if faith in Jesus extends to the Lapid household.
In a short video clip that went viral on Hebrew-language social media, a Messianic Jewish leader is seen telling a conference (in English) that record numbers of Israelis are coming to faith in Jesus, including Lihi Lapid.
While Lapid’s political opponents howled about nepotism, the media, and in particular the ultra-Orthodox media, was heavily focused on Keren’s faith in Jesus.
Lapid’s wife and sister-in-law aren’t the only high profile, government-connected Israelis to speak positively of Jesus in recent years.
In 2019, Yair Netanyahu, son of Benjamin Netanyahu, took to Twitter to defend Jesus’ true Jewish heritage when Palestinian activists tried to claim him as one of theirs, according to a report on the Israel Today web site.
