(TJV)  In  another wild turn of events, today’s court session ended with Hunter Biden’s plea deal placed on hold, and Hunter pleading not guilty for the time being.

US District Judge Maryellen Noreika said she was not ready to accept the plea deal, and has asked both sides to file additional briefs explaining the legal structure of the revised deal.

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, appeared in federal court and pleaded guilty to tax offenses, originally under the plea deal which was later placed on hold

During the hearing, the judge, Maryellen Noreika, raised concerns about the agreement’s time frame and the specific charges not being prosecuted. Eventually, a revised plea deal was reached, limiting the charges to tax crimes, drug offenses, and a firearm violation between 2014 and 2019.

Under this dealwhich was placed on hold, Hunter Biden won’t be prosecuted for those offenses during those years.

However, it was disclosed that there is an ongoing investigation that could lead to additional charges outside the scope of the agreement.

The charges Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to were two misdemeanor tax crimes related to his failure to pay more than $100,000 in income tax on over $1.5 million of income he received in 2017 and 2018. He also faced a charge for possessing a gun while addicted to an illegal drug, but this will be resolved through the plea deal to avoid imprisonment.

The initial agreement faced disagreements over the extent to which the government would not prosecute Hunter Biden further. Judge Noreika questioned the non-prosecution aspects of the deal and asked the parties to discuss their differences, leading to the setting of a new court date.

The plea deal has drawn criticism from conservatives who accuse the Justice Department of failing to thoroughly investigate the business dealings of the Biden family, including President Biden, and granting Hunter Biden favorable treatment due to political reasons.

House Republicans sought to intervene in the case, urging the judge to consider testimony from IRS workers who claimed that Hunter Biden received preferential treatment from the Justice Department. They view the Hunter Biden investigation as an example of a double standard compared to how the Justice Department handled cases involving former President Donald Trump.

In response to the investigations into Hunter Biden, House Republicans have been conducting their own inquiries into the business dealings of Biden family members.

The investigation into Hunter Biden has been led by US Attorney David Weiss of Delaware, who was appointed by Trump and retained by President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland. Weiss stated that the allegations in the raw FBI report are part of an ongoing investigation.
