The Jordan Valley Regional Council and HaShomer HaChadash have launched a joint initiative to establish a new moshav in the Jordan Valley, as part of a broader national effort to strengthen Israeli communities along the country’s eastern border. The initiative is being advanced in coordination with several regional councils and government ministries.
This week, the founding families of Moshav Gevonit, a new community slated for construction in the Jordan Valley by 2026, gathered for the initiative’s first group meeting. The evening included a tour of the designated site, a scenic lookout, and an open dialogue with regional leadership and partners, including representatives from HaShomer HaChadash. The event was led by the council’s Communities Division and Department for Demographic Growth.

David Elhayani, Head of the Jordan Valley Regional Council, stated: “The establishment of Moshav Gevonit marks an important milestone for the Jordan Valley. It is further proof that our vision for growth, renewal, and strengthened community life in the region is becoming a reality. We are proud to partner with HaShomer HaChadash on an initiative that enhances Israeli presence and resilience in the heart of the valley. Congratulations to the founding group. There is still a long road ahead, but together we will go far.”
Yoel Zilberman, Founder and CEO of HaShomer HaChadash , added: “Standing on the hill where a new moshav will rise, surrounded by young families envisioning their future in the Jordan Valley and overlooking a breathtaking landscape, is a powerful and deeply moving moment. I am grateful to the council head and all our partners for their dedication to this historic Zionist initiative. It reflects a broader strategy we are leading to strengthen rural communities throughout Israel, with a current emphasis on those along the eastern border.”

The project is being led on behalf of HaShomer HaChadash by Uri Sapir, Deputy Director General for Community Building, along with his team. They are in close contact with families interested in joining and are actively working to populate additional new communities across the country, including Moshav Shtula on the Lebanese border.
