A phone call between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, initially reported as showing that the two leaders were on the same page, was actually marked with heated disagreements over Iran, according to a Channel 12 report.

The conversation between the two leaders was reported to have focused on what they agreed on, namely, that Iran should never obtain a nuclear weapon.

However, reports since then have emphasized sharp disagreements between Trump and Netanyahu, with the former emphasizing that a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear threat is a likely and preferable way to deal with the problem.

Trump reportedly told Netanyahu, “I want a diplomatic solution with the Iranians. I believe in my ability to make a good deal.” He also said he could make a deal that would benefit both sides.

The news of the acrimonious call comes to light during a visit to Jerusalem by US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to meet with Netanyahu and Israeli officials.

Noem told Fox News, “President Trump specifically sent me here to speak with the prime minister about how negotiations are going and how important it is that we stay united and let this process play out.”

She characterized the talks with Netanyahu as “very candid,” possibly hinting at conflict.

“President Trump expressed support for the objectives set by Prime Minister Netanyahu: to secure the release of all our hostages, to eliminate Hamas, and to advance the Trump Plan,” rNetanyahu’s spokesperson announced last week.

During Netanyahu’s press conference on Wednesday night, the first since 2024, he announced that Israel would consider ending the war if the “Trump plan” for Gaza could be implemented.
