Rumors in recent days suggested that Jews were among those killed during Iran’s crackdown on nationwide protests.

However, sources who spoke with Kan News said there is no indication of Jewish fatalities or injuries, adding that community members have largely avoided protest centers and sought to demonstrate loyalty to the regime.

At the same time, figures close to the community said several Jews have been detained on suspicion of involvement in the demonstrations.

Community representatives denied any connection to the protests, saying the arrests were a mistake and expressing hope that those detained will be released soon. The report aired Tuesday on Kan News Radio’s midday program.

The reports come amid sharply disputed figures on the overall toll of the unrest. Iranian authorities have reported 3,117 deaths, including civilians and security personnel, and more than 20,000 arrests.

Independent human rights groups and activists place the death toll far higher, with some estimates reaching 36,000.

Iran’s Jewish community, one of the oldest in the world with roots stretching back more than 2,700 years, has long sought to navigate periods of political turmoil by avoiding public confrontation.

Community leaders now appear focused on staying clear of the unrest, amid concern that even unsubstantiated allegations could expose Jews to heightened scrutiny during the ongoing crackdown.
