(TJV NEWS) A pair of Delta Air Lines regional jets made contact late Wednesday night on a taxiway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, authorities confirmed.
Endeavor Air Flight 5155, bound for Roanoke, Virginia, was taxiing for departure when its wing struck the cockpit of Endeavor-operated Flight 5047, which had just arrived from Charlotte, North Carolina.
“We have two CRJs on taxiway M that collided,” one of the Flight 5047 pilots reported to ground controllers in audio posted on LiveATC.net. The pilot added, “Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit wind screens.”
The incident occurred at approximately 9:56 p.m. local time. Delta said in a statement that its teams were assisting passengers and that the airline would work with authorities to investigate. “Safety of our customers and people comes before all else. We apologize to our customers for the experience,” the carrier said.
No injuries were reported. Responsibility for the collision is expected to rest with the pilot in command of Flight 5155, according to initial accounts.
Regional carriers such as Endeavor typically employ newer pilots who are accumulating flight hours before advancing to larger aircraft operated directly by major airlines like Delta.
