Internet sensation Kai Cenat, a 21-year-old Twitch star, showed a stunning lack of foresight as he impulsively goaded his massive fan base into a reckless and potentially dangerous situation, some may rightfully speculate it wasn’t lack of foresight but rather done on purpose.
In a video message that would later come back to haunt him, Cenat enthusiastically called on his devoted followers to converge upon Manhattan’s Union Square, declaring with an alarming disregard for consequences, “We’re gonna go crazy, bro!”
Little did he seem to realize (or did he) the chaos and harm that such heedless encouragement could unleash, The NY Post pointed out.
Cenat’s decision to pick Union Square over Times Square’s more controlled environment, simply to court the possibility of mayhem, revealed a concerning lack of responsibility. He brazenly stated that he believed the event would get shut down quickly, showcasing a troubling disregard for the safety of those who might heed his call. It was as if he saw the potential for chaos as a badge of honor rather than a dangerous and foolhardy proposition.
When it was all said and done, the 21-year-old social media star, boasting 20 million followers, was charged with inciting a riot and unlawful assembly before being released on a desk appearance ticket.
His cavalier attitude continued as he nonchalantly mentioned having “good protection and s–t,” downplaying the importance of ensuring the safety of the attendees. Cenat’s rhetoric took an alarming turn as he addressed his New York audience with a mix of affection and derogatory language, casually attributing dangerous and destructive behavior to them. Such careless remarks exhibited a stunning lack of understanding and empathy, seemingly encouraging a volatile atmosphere.
As the event unfolded, Cenat’s heedless approach resulted in thousands of his online followers swarming Union Square in pursuit of promised freebies. The outcome was anything but the jovial celebration he had portrayed.
Instead, violence erupted, leaving numerous individuals injured and a sense of chaos that law enforcement struggled to contain. Shockingly, Cenat himself was among those apprehended, facing a slew of charges including inciting a riot and unlawful assembly.
The aftermath of the event painted a vivid picture of the fallout from Cenat’s reckless actions. His ill-conceived plans had far-reaching implications, leading to injuries, arrests, and a disconcerting sense of lawlessness. Rather than being a victim of unforeseen circumstances, Cenat’s actions had set in motion a series of events that demonstrated a staggering lack of responsibility and a troubling willingness to embrace the chaos he had incited.
Cenat’s lack of a permit for the event and his failure to control the situation led to violent turmoil, with rioters hurling objects at each other, bystanders, and law enforcement. The melee left multiple civilians and police officers injured. Online, he faced criticism and ridicule for his reckless actions, with some users sarcastically asking about the outcome of his “little get together.” Despite the backlash, there were supporters who attributed blame to the unruly attendees rather than solely to Cenat.
A receptionist at an office located only feet away from the chaos, heard the chaos, fighting, screaming, cursing, fireworks, possible gunshot, sirens, and overhead helicopters; and described to TJV News as being terrified to leave work at 6PM. Her co-workers at an unnamed firm gathered in front of the computers watching live streams of the carnage, and looked out the window, wondering if they would make it out of work and to their homes safely.
