A “homeless man” with a lengthy rap sheet is facing charges for assaulting an off-duty cop and shoving him in front of an oncoming train in New York City this week, according to reports.

The harrowing incident unfolded just before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Manhattan.

A New York Police Department officer was heading home after serving on the United Nations General Assembly security detail when he was targeted in a “completely unprovoked” attack, according to Prosecutor Geremia Adamo.

While walking along a platform at the Third Avenue L station in the East Village, the officer was punched in the back of the head and thrown onto the subway tracks by a black male, the New York Post reports.

The suspect also fell into the track bed, but both men were able to extricate themselves moments before a train arrived.

A brief struggle ensued before the suspect jumped down to another track bed and took off running.

The injured cop called for assistance and responding officers were able to locate the suspect aboard a train at Union Square station.

He was arrested and identified as Aaron Walker, a 28-year-old vagrant with three arrests in the past month and a lengthy rap sheet.

Authorities also discovered Walker was wanted for a brutal Sept. 13 assault onboard an NYC train that left a male victim hospitalized with serious facial injuries.

Judge Jeffrey Gershuny, who has reportedly treated Walker with kid gloves in other cases, ordered the career criminal held without bail following Tuesday’s attack.

Walker “pushed him onto the tracks of the transit line when the train was actually coming into the station,” Judge Gershuny stated.

“He could actually see the subway lights.”

Walker was charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, attempted reckless endangerment, two counts of criminal trespassing, and two counts of disorderly conduct.
