Top officials from the NYPD met with Staten Island community leaders today to announce the rollout of the newly formed Quality of Life Division, a strategic initiative aimed at directly addressing community concerns and improving the daily lives of residents across the borough and the city.

The meeting featured Assistant Commissioner Alden Isiah Foster of the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau, alongside Chief Maurice Williams, the Commanding Officer of the new division, and Chief William Glenn, its Executive Officer. They outlined the division’s mission to tackle issues such as illegal dumping, noise pollution, graffiti, and other public nuisances that impact public safety and neighborhood satisfaction.

In his remarks, Assistant Commissioner Foster emphasized that the success of the new division hinges on robust collaboration between law enforcement and community stakeholders. He singled out COJO and its leadership as a critical partner in this new endeavor.

“Effective policing is a partnership, and to truly address quality of life, we must work hand-in-hand with those who have their finger on the pulse of the community,” said Assistant Commissioner Foster. “For decades, COJO has been that indispensable partner. Mendy Mirocznik and his outstanding team have a proven track record of getting the job done. Their deep-rooted trust within the community and their unwavering dedication makes them an invaluable asset in this mission. We are not just launching a new division; we are strengthening a vital alliance for the betterment of Staten Island.”

The Quality-of-Life Division will deploy officers specifically trained to identify, address, and resolve recurring local problems, working in concert with other city agencies to provide comprehensive solutions.

Chief Maurice Williams, the division’s new Commanding Officer, spoke about the operational importance of having a reliable community liaison. “Our officers will be problem-solvers on the ground, but we can’t see and hear everything. We rely on trusted community organizations to be our eyes and ears and to help us build bridges,” said Chief Williams. “Mendy Mirocznik’s exemplary leadership at COJO has created a powerful and effective communication channel. He and his team don’t just report problems; they help formulate solutions. Their partnership is essential for our success, and we are thrilled to work closely with them.”

COJO, a central coordinating body for Jewish organizations on Staten Island, has a long history of civic engagement and collaboration with the NYPD on various public safety and community-building initiatives.

Mendy Mirocznik, President of COJO, thanked the NYPD leadership for their confidence and pledged his organization’s full support. “We are honored that Assistant Commissioner Foster, Chief Williams, and Chief Glenn have chosen to launch this important initiative here with us on Staten Island,” stated Mirocznik. “COJO’s foundation is built on service and collaboration. We understand that a community’s strength is measured by the safety and well-being of its residents. We are fully committed to assisting the new Quality of Life Division in every way possible to ensure that Staten Island remains a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.”

The partnership will involve regular meetings, shared public information campaigns, and a streamlined process for residents to report quality-of-life concerns through trusted community channels like COJO.
