New Head of NYC Racial Equity Commish Linked to Radical Org & Anti-Semitism

 By: Benyamin Davidsons

The person appointed by the city to help bring “racial equity” is affiliated with a radical organization out to establish an “independent black nation” on US soil.

As reported by the NY Post, last week Linda Tigani was appointed by Mayor Eric Adams and Speaker Adrienne Adams to be chair and executive director of the Commission on Racial Equity.  Tigani had worked as an organizer with the New York chapter of the Malcom X Grassroots Movement until 2019.  That organization touts the pursuit of reparations and to “Free the Land,” or to establish an “independent Black Nation on land in north amerikka” comprising South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, as per MXGM’s website.

“We say ‘Free the Land’ because We want independence so that we can ensure our Human Rights are protected and that our land will be a zone and base for all who seek liberation and freedom,” the website reads.  The group puts out a quarterly journal of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, entitled BAMN (By Any Means Necessary) News.  “The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement stands in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance in Gaza and with the Haitian people.  We say hands off Haiti, Free Palestine,” the group said in an online statement.

Tigani herself also proudly features the phrase “working to Free the Land” on her X account, which she made private last week after the Post had reported on anti-Semitic messages on her Twitter account in recent years. Her posts included the infamous hateful and inciting phrase, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” which is a call for the total eradication of the Jewish state of Israel and its citizens.  This year, Tigani also shared several posts highlighting Israeli attacks on Palestinians.

In May, she shared a video purporting to show an Israeli police officer assaulting a Palestinian man.  “I despise posting this. One of the reasons I, and so many Palestinians don’t, is bc the depth of humiliation as torture is unbearable, all of us have family who’ve been through this,” her post read. “This is every single day, everywhere in Palestine.”

After The Post’s coverage of Tigani’s hateful posts last week, Mayor Adams administration said it was contemplating its next steps with Speaker Adams’ office in regards to the new CORE head.  The independent Commission on Racial Equity is responsible for engaging and seeking out New Yorkers’ input to decide and develop the Big Apple’s racial equity priorities.  Tigani most recently worked as acting chief equity and strategy officer for the city Health Department, where she earned $165,363 in fiscal year 2023.

“It’s alarming to have someone in charge of a racial commission who uses language hinting at erasing any race or throws around racially loaded terms,” Councilman Bob Holden (D-Queens) told The Post.  “The city should remove her immediately to ensure the commission truly represents racial equity.”

A rep for the mayor commented about the antisemitic posts.  “To be clear, Mayor Adams strongly disagrees with the messages in these posts and has repeatedly stated his support for the existence of a Jewish state of Israel,” a spokesperson said last week.

Tigani commented telling The Post she was sorry for not realizing how her X posts had harmed the Jewish community, and that in her new position she would “be sensitive to the concerns of all New Yorkers.”  She also claimed phrase “Free the Land” is in fact “a call to end all forms of violence and harm to one another and to preserve the land we live on.”  “To achieve social justice, we must address the impact of climate change,” she added.
