Since the conversion of the Roosevelt Hotel into a migrant shelter in May, a total of 41 individuals have been arrested, with most cases linked to domestic violence incidents, according to law enforcement sources.

Recently, a 30-year-old migrant residing at the Manhattan hotel-turned-shelter was apprehended for alleged child endangerment. The arrest took place shortly before 9 p.m. on a Saturday at the hotel located at 45 E. 45th St. The alleged victim was the man’s 11-year-old daughter, as reported by police sources. However, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office later decided not to pursue prosecution, citing a lack of evidence, NY Post reported,

Among the arrests at the site, one involved an asylum seeker who was accused of assaulting a hotel employee in June. The dispute escalated when the worker ejected the unruly individual from the building, resulting in the employee sustaining a 6-inch gash on his head. Mayor Eric Adams visited the hotel unannounced to assess the situation following this incident.

During the summer, the Roosevelt Hotel faced overwhelming numbers of migrants, leading to some asylum seekers having to sleep on cardboard on the sidewalk outside the hotel. This situation garnered attention and raised concerns about the shelter’s capacity.

In a separate incident, a 20-year-old migrant woman was arrested for allegedly slapping an NYPD officer who was attempting to confiscate her unregistered motorbike in front of the Stratford Arms Hotel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The same woman had previously been arrested in July for an alleged attack on her boyfriend. She was released without bail in accordance with state law.

Local businesses near the Roosevelt Hotel have expressed their concerns, with some reporting disturbances caused by migrants. George Boahene, a store manager at a nearby men’s suit store, complained about migrants scratching windows and making them dirty, which he believed was detrimental to his business.

Meanwhile in other news on the migrant crisis

A 29-year-old Venezuelan national, Daniel Hernandez Martinez, arrived in New York City just two months ago, and during this brief period, he has faced a staggering six arrests on charges related to 14 different crimes, many of which involved violent acts.

Martinez’s journey into criminal activity in the city began shortly after his arrival on June 27 from the United States-Mexico border. The very next day, he allegedly committed a robbery at a Costco in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Initially charged with petty larceny, Martinez benefited from New York’s bail reform law and was released from police custody without having to post bail.

On July 31, Martinez allegedly assaulted independent journalist Jeffrey Bradac, 52, after an interview for Bradac’s social media accounts. Bradac, who has been covering illegal immigration in the city, claimed that Martinez assaulted him with a bike tire. Although Martinez initially escaped before police could apprehend him, Bradac later spotted him outside the Row Hotel, where Mayor Eric Adams had placed numerous migrants. Bradac promptly notified the police, leading to Martinez’s swift arrest.

Less than a month later, Martinez was arrested for violently attacking an unknown woman, dragging her by the hair, kicking her, and smashing her cell phone in Midtown West, Manhattan. This time, he faced charges of assault, criminal mischief, possession of a weapon, and menacing. Shockingly, he was granted supervised release from jail.

Within days of this violent episode, Martinez found himself in custody again after allegedly threatening a stranger with a chain.
