According to report that appeared on Friday  in the British newspaper known as the Daily Mail, a 24-year-old Israeli citizen working at the Israeli consulate in the midtown section of New York City was charged with attempting to murder a 42-year-old man outside a nightclub in Manhattan, as was reported by i24 News.

According to the indictment, the defendant attacked the victim with a glass jug on February 26 outside the “Gospel” bar in the Soho neighborhood in Manhattan, as was reported by i24News.com.

The Daily Mail also reported that paramedics rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for a brain bleed and multiple cuts, according to the New York Police Department.

The Kan news network in Israel reported that the suspect – Yonatan Maimon – is the son of a former senior official, former cabinet secretary, and former chairman of the Israel Bonds organization. The victim’s identity was not made public, and whether Maimon knew them was unknown, as was reported by i24 News. According to the report, there was no apparent motive behind the attack.

A bare-chested Maimon allegedly attacked the victim while he was waiting at a stoplight. According to the evidence police reportedly collected from the assault, the defendant was seen punching the victim seven times before stopping when the jug broke, according to the i24 News report.

Channel 13 news in Israel said Maimon worked at the consulate as a member of the Defense Ministry’s delegation, and that he had turned himself in to authorities.

The Daily Mail reported that he is accused of striking his victim hard once in the head, prompting the man to fall to the ground in an attack described as unprovoked.

That didn’t stop the attack, with the man cops say is Maimon seen striking his victim another six times, as was reported by the Daily Mail of the UK. The attacker said to be Maimon only stopped when the glass bottle shattered after landing the seventh blow.

Maimon is further accused of using the same jug to smash the window of a passing Uber moments before the orgy of violence began, the Daily Mail reported.

A NYPD spokesman said they have a ‘strong case’ against the consulate worker, who was captured on CCTV in Gospel nightclub shortly before the attack.

The Daily Mail also reported that prosecutors say they have credit card receipts from Gospel proving that Maimon was there.

It’s unclear if Maimon met his alleged victim inside the club prior to the beating, and if he remains employed by the Israeli consulate, the report from the UK indicated.

The NYPD released video recorded from a cab that shows a man who strongly resembles Maimon strutting down the street while toting the empty glass container, as was reported by the Daily Mail.

A white stretch limo was filmed idling behind the attacker, who had pulled his white t-shirt over his shoulders to expose his tattooed torso, according to the Daily Mail. It’s unclear  – if anything – what prompted Maimon’s alleged violent rage.

He appeared meek and shame-faced outside Manhattan Criminal Court on Friday, as he was freed on $25,000 bail, the report said. Maimon dressed in a white shirt and gray pea coat to fend off the winter chill, and kept his eyes fixed on the sidewalk while being snapped by a DailyMail.com photographer.

Maimon faces between five and 25 years behind bars if convicted.
