Half-Naked Body of 63-Year Old Man Washes Up Ashore in Sag Harbor; Witnesses Stunned

Although the Hamptons out on the East End of Long Island is known as the premiere summer vacation destination for a panoply of celebrities and highly affluent folks from New York City and beyond, it also has it share of problems. The long and short of it is that it is not all glitz and glamor.

On Wednesday, the New York Post reported that a half-naked dead body washed ashore in Sag Harbor Cove this week. The report indicated that witnesses were totally shocked at the “ghastly” sight.

On Monday morning, two kayakers spotted the body of 63-year old Keith Viagas lying face down on a shoreline in the wealthy village. The Post reported that such celebrities as actor Richard Gere and singer Billy Joel.

One witness told Page Six that, “He was nude apart from a black shirt around his neck, black socks or swim booties on. It was a ghastly sight to stumble across on a beautiful August summer morning.”

While local police did not suspect foul play, according to the Post, the cause of death will be determined by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office.

Speaking to the Post, Southampton Police Lt. Susan C. Ralph said of Viagas, “he’s a long-term resident but he was not reported missing because he would commonly go away for a couple of days then return.”

As was previously mentioned, both celebrities and wealthy New York City residents live in a Sag Harbor homes. The Post reported that such people as Joy Behar (co-host “The View”) live in a home there worth $7.13 million, the stars of Real Housewives, Jill Zarin and Luann de Lesseps former NBC News anchor Matt Lauer and singer Jimmy Buffet. Also residing in the ritzy enclave are artists April Gornik and Eric Fischl, who also lived there at one point.

Close to Sag Harbor is the rented house where the Kardashians (Khloe and Kourtney) lived for their 2014 summer spin off, “Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons,” as was reported by the Post/

It was there that the Kardashian sisters opened a pop-up retail store known as “Dash” in Southamption Village for the 2014 season. The Post reported that their relatives visited them at the North Sea abode. Among them were Kim Kardashian as well as Kendall and Kylie Jenner and mother Kris Jenner. The report does not indicate whether Kaitlin Jenner was present.

The retail location, according to the Post report was also rented out after that by singer Rihanna for a whopping $415,000 a month
