Scott Borgerson, the estranged husband of convicted sexual-trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell has put their Massachusetts mansion up for sale with a listing price of $7.3 million. Located in Manchester-by-the-Sea, The waterfront property, known as the Phippen-Smith house, is owned by Borgerson’s limited liability company Tidewood LLC. It was purchased by Borgerson in 2016.

The home has an extraordinary history. According to the Wall Street Journal, Borgeson told the paper that he believes his house was built around 1660 in Salem, Mass., before it was moved by barge in 1917 to its current location in an enclave known as the Sharksmouth Estate. His company paid $2.45 million for it in 2016, records show. He also spent another $2.5 million restoring it, he told the paper. The house now has five bedrooms spread across roughly 6,100 square feet, with modern amenities including Tesla charging stations.

Ghislaine Maxwellis currently in prison having been arrested in July of 2020. She was convicted of sex-trafficking and is awaiting sentencing. Maxwell is facing up to 65 years in prison. The New York Post reports Maxwell, “formally called for a retrial last month after it was revealed that a juror failed to disclose their childhood sexual abuse during jury selection.”

The Wall Street Journal broke the news that Maxwell was married, “it was only after her arrest that it emerged she was married — with even Maxwell’s supportive siblings later admitting they had no idea. However, Borgerson refused to discuss with the WSJ whether he and Maxwell had legally married.” Maxwell had not lived at the estate for long, only using it hide out for a bit before her eventual arrest.

Borgerson, according to a New York Times report, “According to a 2016 profile in Institutional Investor, Mr. Borgerson grew up in rural Missouri. His father was a former Marine infantry official, and his mother taught high school French and Spanish. The family was Presbyterian, and Mr. Borgerson told the publication that in high school he considered becoming a priest before deciding instead to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. “There’s a lot that motivates me, including — if I’m honest — I have a big chip on my shoulder to beat the prep school, Ivy League, M.B.A. crowd,” he said. “They’re bred to make money, but they’re not smarter than everyone else; they just have more patina and connections.”

Maxwell, according to Wikipedia, was born in “France, Maxwell was raised in Oxford. In the 1980s, she attended Balliol College, Oxford, then became a prominent member of London’s social scene. She worked for her father, Robert Maxwell, until his death in 1991, when she moved to New York City, where she continued living as a socialite and had a relationship with Epstein. In 2012, Maxwell founded a non-profit group for the protection of oceans. Following sex trafficking allegations being brought by prosecutors against Epstein in July 2019, the organization announced cessation of operations the same month. Maxwell is a naturalized US citizen and retains both French and British citizenship.
