Former New York Governor David Paterson has joined a growing chorus of Democrats voicing their concerns about the Biden administration’s handling of the migrant crisis.

Paterson expressed agreement with Staten Island GOP Representative Nicole Malliotakis, who has been critical of the administration’s approach, describing it as a “self-inflicted wound” recently on top rated talk radio outlet WABC770AM.

Speaking on WABC 770 AM’s “Cats Roundtable” with host John Catsimatidis, Paterson questioned the federal government’s lack of foresight in managing the influx of migrants, NY Post pointed our

He asked, “When they planned this, where did they think we would be in September 2023? Where did they think that all these people would go?”

Paterson, 69, commended Malliotakis for her outspoken criticism of the administration’s actions. He stated, “[Malliotakis], I think, explains the whole situation and how it all happened better than anybody.”

One of the key issues raised by Malliotakis and Paterson is the lack of preparation by federal agencies in the states where migrants were being sent. Paterson highlighted the need for the federal government to have planned and provided support for programs to train migrants in various skilled areas. He drew parallels to the turn of the last century when 1.3 million immigrants arrived at Ellis Island, noting that at that time, jobs were already available, and immigration had been planned accordingly.

Paterson firmly criticized the federal government for causing a “self-inflicted wound” without adequately considering the migrants’ prospects once they arrived in the United States. He emphasized the need for a more comprehensive approach that addresses the challenges faced by both immigrants and the host populations.

However, Paterson did praise the actions of New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who has taken steps to challenge the federal government’s approach to the crisis. He mentioned her recent visit to the White House to seek assistance and her criticism of the underlying issues that led to the current situation.

Paterson also acknowledged the efforts of New York City Mayor Eric Adams in holding White House officials accountable for the crisis. However, he noted the political challenges Adams faces in convincing the federal government to cover a significant portion of the up to $12 billion cost for sheltering new arrivals over the next three years.

Following a series of protests across Staten Island over proposed shelters sites for asylum seekers, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis appeared on NY1 recently to address the migrant crisis and voice concerns from her constituents.

Malliotakis said residents are afraid because of what they have heard from other migrant sites, as far left NY1 tried to portray Staten Islanders as horrible bigots.
