The anti-Semitic hate of Fatima Mousa Mohammed is influencing radical students across the nation apparently, as the latest purveyor of vile Palestinian propaganda, Jana Abulaban, shocked a community college in California, with a hateful tirade which rivals the CUNY hate monger herself.
During the recent commencement speech at El Camino Community College in Torrance, California, Jana Abulaban, an 18-year-old student, made remarks that critics consider to be anti-Semitic.
She accused Israel of killing and torturing Palestinians in her speech as the head of the college’s Associated Students Organization. Abulaban claimed to be inspired by Fatima Mousa Mohammed, a commencement speaker from CUNY Law School, who also made controversial statements about Israel during her address in New York City the previous month.
Abulaban’s statement about Israel’s actions received some applause from the audience, although she had been warmly received when she first took the podium. The college later tweeted a photo of Abulaban speaking at the graduation, but the accompanying quote from her address was more mild and focused on her personal journey as an immigrant.
Abulaban, although not a Palestinian refugee herself, identifies as a Palestinian woman, and her grandmother was a Palestinian refugee. She was born in Jordan and immigrated to the United States with her family in 2016 when she was 12 years old.
Critics, such as former CUNY board Trustee Jeffrey Wiesenfeld, find Abulaban’s speech disturbing and believe it reflects a growing trend of illiterate or semi-literate students with a skewed perception of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The group stopantisemitism.org condemned Abulaban’s speech on Twitter and pointed out that El Camino Community College received a significant amount of government funding.
The group stopantisemitism.org tweeted Sunday, “Yet another graduation speech is hijacked with false antisemitic rhetoric, The NY Post pointed out.
“El Camino received approx. $150 million in federal, state, and local tax dollars for the 2022-2023 school year according to its budget,’ the tweet added.
Another disgusted tweeter said, “Don’t worry El Camino Community College. Just reach out to @JCRCNY. They’ll help show you how to propagandize this as ‘not antisemitic.’”
Abulaban denies having hate in her heart and clarifies that her intention was to shed light on what she perceives as atrocities committed by the Israeli government against Palestinians. She insists that her speech was not inciting violence or promoting hatred towards a specific religion.
“I felt the need to really shed light on the atrocities that Israel as an apartheid state is committing,” she said.
“I’m not talking about Jewish people torturing and killing Palestinians. … It’s the Israeli government that is killing and torturing Palestinians.”
“And I honestly feel inspired by her courage to speak up. We are only trying to speak up against what this oppressive government is doing.”, she told the NY Post.
Abulaban claims to have shared her speech with a college director involved in the commencement ceremony, who supported her right to express her views. She plans to transfer to UCLA in the fall to study psychology and hopes to become a lawyer in the future.
Fatima Mousa Mohammed, the commencement speaker at CUNY Law School, also faced criticism for her inflammatory speech targeting Israel. She accused Israel of indiscriminately attacking Palestinians and engaging in settler colonialism. Mohammed received applause from the crowd, including the school’s dean.
The Jewish community and organizations like StopAntisemismnow.org are deeply concerned about the rise of anti-Semitic rhetoric on college campuses. They highlight the need for consequences and the promotion of social justice for the Jewish community.
