Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo may be plotting his next act after falling short in the 2024 New York City mayoral race — but it won’t involve another campaign, at least not yet. Instead, the once-powerful Democrat is exploring a return to the public spotlight through the airwaves, according to the New York Post.

Cuomo, 68, is currently in discussions with conservative-leaning radio station 77 WABC about hosting a weekly show, station owner John Catsimatidis confirmed to the New York Post. While details are still being finalized, Catsimatidis said the concept is already taking shape and would likely feature Cuomo speaking directly to listeners on issues facing the city and country.

“I think he wants to do [a show] once a week. He wants to stay in touch with the people,” Catsimatidis told the New York Post, adding that the program is very much “in the works.” The billionaire businessman, who also owns the Gristedes supermarket chain, floated the idea publicly during his Sunday broadcast of “Cats Roundtable,” where he interviewed Cuomo on air.

During that exchange, Catsimatidis hinted at Cuomo’s possible expanded presence on WABC, telling him, “I hear you may be talking a little bit more on WABC radio in the near future,” according to the New York Post. Cuomo didn’t deny the possibility, instead praising the station’s reach and engagement.

“I think your station has an audience that is participatory, and large,” Cuomo said, according to the New York Post. “It’s very important … that we understand what’s going on and have informed dialogue, and your station is a great vehicle to do that.”

Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi framed the potential radio role as part of the former governor’s ongoing involvement in public life rather than a political reboot, the New York Post reported. Azzopardi said Cuomo plans to remain an outspoken figure on major policy debates, from rising antisemitism to the future of cities and urban governance.

“Andrew Cuomo has a perspective and points of view that more than 900,000 New Yorkers supported in the last race,” Azzopardi said, according to the New York Post. “He will continue to speak out on the important issues on WABC and many other media outlets.”

Catsimatidis declined to say whether Cuomo would be compensated for the show, though money is unlikely to be a motivating factor. As the New York Post previously reported, Cuomo earned roughly $4.7 million in 2024 through his legal consulting business. After resigning as governor in 2021, he also briefly experimented with media, hosting his own podcast.

Cuomo’s possible arrival at WABC comes amid recent turmoil at the station following last year’s mayoral race. His Republican opponent, Curtis Sliwa, formerly hosted a show there but departed after clashing with Catsimatidis and other station personalities.

Sliwa left for iHeartMedia’s 710 WOR after station figures urged him to drop out of the race.
