Bill Ackman, the billionaire investor, has raised concerns about the recent plagiarism allegations against his wife, former MIT professor Neri Oxman, suggesting that insiders at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) may be behind the investigation.
I thought to do one more post about the @NeriOxman Business Insider story in the hopes of its rapid resolution.
In this post, I share the entire story including many new facts that we have learned in the last 24 hours, and hold nothing back from the public domain, including…

Business Insider intensified its examination of Oxman’s 2010 MIT doctoral dissertation, revealing an additional 28 instances of alleged plagiarism, with at least 15 passages directly copied from Wikipedia entries.

The outlet known as Business Insider itself is a questionable news outlet, frequently fact checked and known for its intense far left wing bias. The outlet is a subsidiary of the German publisher Axel Springer SE, the largest in Europe. The outlet disguised as a technology and business site is really a propaganda mill for the far left.
Two reasons why going after @BillAckman’s wife is one of the dumbest moves I’ve ever seen.
1- Never mess with a man’s wife; you’re about to see what Bill is truly capable of.
2- Whenever you make something like this personal, you’ve already lost; not only have you lost the… pic.twitter.com/aPux8WfP0h

Ackman, who has been on a public campaign against MIT, demanding the removal of its president over allegations of on-campus antisemitism, responded to the fresh claims with a post on social media platform X, stating that he has “good reason to believe” that the source of Business Insider’s investigation is within MIT. While Ackman did not provide specific details, he expressed uncertainty about whether MIT’s board, its chairman Mark Gorenberg, or certain faculty members were involved in the initiative against his wife.

The plagiarism allegations against Oxman include passages in her dissertation that Business Insider deemed “virtually identical” to content on Wikipedia pages. An example cited was a passage on page 81 of Oxman’s dissertation, titled “Material-based Design Computation,” which resembled text from the Wikipedia page on “Weaving.” The lack of proper citation in these instances aligns with MIT’s definition of plagiarism, potentially leading to penalties such as suspension or expulsion.

In addition to textual similarities, Business Insider reported that Oxman used an illustration from the Wikipedia article on “Heat flux” without proper attribution. Following the publication of these findings, Oxman apologized for the lack of proper citation in four paragraphs of her dissertation, expressing regret and pledging to request necessary corrections from MIT.
Bill Ackman defended his wife, acknowledging her admission of mistakes and referring to her as “human.” This comes after Ackman criticized ex-Harvard president Claudine Gay over similar plagiarism accusations and called for her to leave Harvard due to “serious plagiarism issues.” Ackman’s activism against university presidents, whom he believes have not adequately addressed campus antisemitism, extends to MIT’s president, Dr. Sally Kornbluth, whom he has called to be fired.

The broader context of Ackman’s actions involves his vocal stance against antisemitism, particularly at Harvard and MIT. The controversies surrounding Oxman’s plagiarism allegations coincide with larger discussions about academic integrity, campus leadership, and the handling of antisemitic issues within universities. Ackman’s involvement in these matters reflects his commitment to what he perceives as maintaining academic integrity and addressing instances of discrimination.
While Oxman has yet to publicly respond to the fresh plagiarism allegations, Ackman has defended her, emphasizing her admission of mistakes. The ongoing saga involving Ackman, Oxman, and MIT adds another layer to the complex dynamics surrounding prestigious institutions, academic rigor, and the public scrutiny faced by individuals within the academic sphere.
As this story unfolds, questions arise about the credibility of Business Insider as a news source, with Ackman insinuating potential bias or internal motivations behind the investigation. The intertwining issues of plagiarism, academic integrity, and activism against antisemitism underscore the complexities faced by universities and individuals in the public eye.
