Northwell Health Announces New Leadership Team for Expanding Metro Market
Edited by: TJVNews.com
Northwell Health announced on Wednesday a new slate of leadership appointments to guide its newly established Metro Market, an integrated network encompassing hospitals and ambulatory facilities across Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Western Queens. The appointments represent a major step in Northwell’s ongoing mission to deliver world-class care, advance clinical innovation, and strengthen its footprint across New York City’s most diverse communities.
At the helm of the Metro Market will be Brahim Ardolic, MD, who has been named President of the Metro Market, overseeing strategy, operations, and performance across all participating facilities. A respected physician-leader with more than two decades of service within Northwell Health, Dr. Ardolic previously served as President of Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) since 2017 and as Deputy Regional Executive Director for Northwell’s Western Region since 2023.
During his tenure at SIUH, Dr. Ardolic guided the hospital through transformative growth, expanding access to specialty care and strengthening the institution’s reputation as a regional center of excellence. Among his most notable achievements, he introduced pediatric cancer services to Staten Island for the first time, ensuring that families could access advanced oncology care without leaving their borough. He also spearheaded the creation of a comprehensive maternity and newborn destination, enhanced emergency medicine services, and helped shape Northwell’s emergency medicine service line across New York City.
Dr. Ardolic was instrumental in modernizing SIUH’s emergency department and launching its emergency medicine residency program, positioning the hospital as a leader in both patient care and medical education. A lifelong Staten Island resident, he has dedicated his career to improving healthcare delivery for his community. Since joining SIUH in 2004, he has become one of Northwell’s most experienced administrators and a driving force behind the health system’s patient-centered philosophy.
New President at Staten Island University Hospital
Succeeding Dr. Ardolic as President of Staten Island University Hospital is Meagan Sills, a veteran healthcare executive whose leadership has been central to SIUH’s modernization and expansion for over a decade.
Since joining the hospital in 2009, Sills has played a key role in shaping the institution’s strategic transformation. Her 16-year tenure includes oversight of major capital projects, infrastructure improvements, and capacity expansion efforts that have elevated the hospital’s role within both Northwell Health and the broader Staten Island community.
Sills led the development of the Florina Cancer Center and the Gruppuso Family Women and Newborn Center, two of the most significant facility additions in the hospital’s history. She also oversaw the expansion of the Lois & Richard Nicotra Heart Institute, which enhanced the hospital’s cardiac care capabilities, and guided over $100 million in resiliency upgrades following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
In her new capacity as president, Sills will manage daily operations and set the long-term strategic direction for both the North and Prince’s Bay campuses of SIUH. Her priorities will include enhancing quality and patient safety, advancing workforce development, and expanding access to critical services for Staten Island residents.
“Meagan has been at the center of nearly every major improvement at SIUH over the past 15 years,” said a Northwell spokesperson. “Her deep institutional knowledge, operational expertise, and commitment to her community make her the ideal leader to guide Staten Island University Hospital into its next chapter.”
Michael Fener Appointed Deputy Metro Market President
Also joining the leadership team is Michael Fener, who has been appointed Deputy Metro Market President, serving alongside Dr. Ardolic while continuing in his current role as Senior Vice President of Strategic Operational Finance for Northwell Health.
In this dual capacity, Fener will continue to collaborate with regional finance teams to drive strategic financial optimization, ensure operational alignment, and support the Metro Market’s long-term sustainability. His appointment underscores Northwell’s emphasis on combining clinical excellence with financial stewardship to sustain the organization’s growth in a challenging healthcare landscape.
Fener brings more than three decades of executive experience to the role. Prior to joining the Metro Market team, he spent 17 years as president of Plainview and Syosset Hospitals, where he led both facilities to national prominence for quality and employee engagement. Under his leadership, the hospitals consistently ranked above the 90th percentile in employee engagement nationwide, achieved significant program development milestones, and received national recognition for clinical quality in multiple specialties.
At Plainview Hospital, Fener oversaw the institution’s first-ever Magnet designation for nursing excellence — one of the highest honors in healthcare — and pioneered a shared management model between Plainview and Syosset Hospitals that improved efficiency, generated millions in annual savings, and elevated patient care standards.
“Michael’s record of success in both finance and operations makes him an invaluable addition to the Metro Market leadership team,” Northwell said in a statement. “His ability to align strategy, resources, and execution will be instrumental in advancing Northwell’s mission of excellence across New York City.”
A Strengthened Vision for the Metro Market
The establishment of the Metro Market represents a pivotal step in Northwell Health’s strategy to unify and expand its presence across the metropolitan area. The initiative integrates hospitals and ambulatory sites throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Western Queens, allowing for greater coordination of care, shared resources, and consistent standards of clinical excellence.
By naming Dr. Ardolic, Sills, and Fener to key leadership roles, Northwell is reinforcing its commitment to innovation, community partnership, and patient-centered care in one of the most complex healthcare markets in the nation.
“Northwell’s Metro Market is more than an organizational realignment — it’s a reaffirmation of our promise to bring exceptional care to every New Yorker, no matter their borough,” the organization said in a prepared statement. “These leaders exemplify Northwell’s values of compassion, excellence, and integrity.”
The appointments come amid a period of strong growth for Northwell Health, New York State’s largest healthcare provider and private employer, which now encompasses 21 hospitals and more than 900 outpatient facilities. Through initiatives like the Metro Market, Northwell aims to streamline operations while maintaining the personalized, community-based approach that has defined its success.
With decades of collective experience and a shared vision for the future of urban healthcare, Dr. Brahim Ardolic, Meagan Sills, and Michael Fener will lead the Metro Market’s efforts to expand access, elevate quality, and ensure that Northwell Health continues to set the standard for care in the region.
“Our focus remains unwavering,” the organization concluded. “Delivering the highest standard of care — for every patient, in every community we serve.”
