Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset have been named among Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2023 list of “Great hospitals in America” for clinical excellence, patient safety, innovation, research and education, and patient satisfaction. The healthcare publication indicates hospitals acknowledged on this list are leaders who contribute to breakthroughs and discoveries that impact the future of medicine. Their expertise benefits not only the communities they serve, but also the healthcare field as a whole.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on an analysis of rankings and awards granted by various prominent organizations– including U.S. News & World Report’s rankings, Healthgrades’ ratings, CMS star ratings and the Leapfrog Group safety grades – as well as through nominations from readers.

Becker’s cited Lenox Hill’s placement in Healthgrades’ list of “America’s 50 Best Hospitals” for the last two years, as well as its ranking as the fourth best hospital in New York by U.S. News and World Report as the reasons for its inclusion. In addition, the publication recognized the hospital for remaining on the cutting-edge of health care and being the first to employ surgical planning technology to streamline operations.

“This honor is a true testament to the phenomenal work of Lenox Hill Hospital’s clinicians and staff, as well as to their unwavering dedication to our community,” said Daniel Baker, MD, executive director of Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital. “I congratulate all of our talented team members for this important recognition of their exceptional service to patients and significant contributions to the medical field.”

Becker’s recognized North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) for its wide range of patient services, as well as specialty and subspecialty residency programs, postgraduate training programs and clinical fellowships. It also cited the hospital’s recognition by U.S. News & World Report as the number five hospital in New York with 11 adult specialties nationally ranked. Lastly, North Shore’s innovation in surgery was highlighted, specifically its modern techniques in brain surgery and being the first hospitals on Long Island to perform a liver transplant.

“North Shore University Hospital is one of the most highly regarded and specialized medical centers in the Northeast,” said Jon Sendach, executive director of NSUH. “Our team members believe in the mission and their impact on the lives of patients is felt each day in so many ways.”
