Jewish Foundation School Reinvigorates with the Re-Launch of the Jaguars
Edited by: TJVNews.com
Sunday, November 5, 2023, saw the return of the Jewish Foundation School’s (JFS) Jaguars Basketball team at their state-of-the-art campus located in the Willowbrook section of Staten Island. Family, friends, Rebbeim, teachers and alumni were on hand to watch the Jaguars play with students from the Rabbi Pesach Raymond Yeshiva (RPRY). The game truly was a display of Ahvas Yisroel, Achdus and brotherhood among two teams that played with each other and not against each other. What truly was moving and most touching was how the game began with the reciting of Tehillim and Davening for Israel as it battles Hamas, evil, destruction, terror and death. The emotional reaction of the room was breathtaking as the room was electrified when the boys transformed the basketball court into a Tefilla Court full of Achdus and sincere heartfelt Tefilla.
Mrs. Ruth Garber, Principal of JFS remarked, “as an educator my goal is to use every activity as a learning tool to educate our students. This is especially so with the current situation in Israel. Our children need to learn to appreciate, give back, and have concern for others. This basketball game staring the Jaguars was the perfect leaning tool. It made the students stop, pause and reflect on the current situation in Israel and ask how we can we as children help make a difference and that starts with Tefilla and Tehillim. I am proud how the students from both schools demonstrated devotion and commitment to Klal Yisrael and I am impressed and happy how this basketball game transformed into a Davening rally. It truly is a testimony that we as a Jewish Community are truly raising a good generation of children dedicated to Torah and Mitzvot”
Mendy Mirocznik, President of the Council of Jewish Organizations of Staten Island (COJO) remarked, “what truly was special was how Oshri Reuven, the Coach of the JFS team and Mendy Bohm the Coach of the RPRY team interacted. They interacted as family not as competitors. They set the tone that we are playing with and not against each other. They further demonstrated this by standing side by side with the boys in Davening and Singing. They publicly sent the message that as a Jew we must take every opportunity we have to elevate the ordinary into a Mitzva. They showed how a simple basketball game becomes a major Mitzva of Achdus. This in my opinion was a big win and major milestone for both teams. Both teams won the true game of Ahvas Yisrael which is a credit to both Yeshivas and their illustrious Coaches.”
