Edited by: TJVNews.com

The Jewish Foundation School (JFS), nestled in the Willowbrook section of Staten Island, resonated with the joyous melodies of a heartwarming Chanukah celebration on its 7th night. Against the backdrop of Israel’s ongoing battle against Hamas and the collective efforts to combat rising antisemitism, the evening showcased the theme of unity.

Ruth Garber, the Principal of the Jewish Foundation School, expressed the significance of the event, stating, “The stage was not only lit by the vibrant performances of our precious students but also by the collective spirit of our talented youth, bringing the magic of Chanukah to life. From captivating skits to soulful renditions of timeless classics, the school show was a celebration of creativity and unity. Families, friends, and faculty came together to witness the brilliance of our students, making this Chanukah showcase an unforgettable experience. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our distinguished and dedicated faculty, whose efforts created memories that will resonate long after the last candle is extinguished. Until next year, may the warmth of Chanukah continue to light our hearts and inspire us all.”

Mendy Mirocznik, President of the Council of Jewish Organizations (COJO), expressed deep appreciation to Mrs. Garber and the talented students, acknowledging their elegant performances. He also thanked Rabbi Yaakov Lehrfield of Young Israel of Staten Island for his moving speech, drawing parallels between the JFS students and the Maccabees. Rabbi Lehrfield’s powerful message was, “just like the Maccabees fought to save the Jewish nation so are our students whose strong dedication and commitment to the community is giving us the fortitude to overcome the challenges we face as a people. I am proud of the great work JFS is doing in molding, building and educating the next generation of proud Jews and leaders.” Rabbi Lehrfield lit the Menorah, leading the students in singing the blessings, creating a poignant climax to the evening.

Mirocznik expressed gratitude to the NYPD officials, including Chief Joseph Gullotta, Staten Island Borough Commander; Inspector Eric Waldhelm, Commanding Officer of Pct. 121; Sgt. Charles Kosa, Pct. 121; Officer Zhana Krot, Police Commissioner’s Liaison Unit; Lt. Mark Brinadze, Pct. 121; Officer Sean Mondello, Community Affairs, Pct. 121; and Officer David Vasquez, Pct. 121, for their presence and participation at the JFS Chanukah festivities. He emphasized the invaluable partnership between COJO and the NYPD, recognizing their dedicated service in ensuring the community’s safety and enhancing the quality of life on Staten Island.

Chief Gulotta, on behalf of the NYPD, expressed gratitude to COJO and Mendy Mirocznik for including the NYPD in community events. He highlighted the importance of such gatherings in fostering community engagement, understanding needs, and building confidence and trust in the NYPD. Gulotta emphasized, that together as partners COJO and the NYPD are truly make the difference.
