New York City Mayor Eric Adams received an unexpected show of support during a high-end fundraiser in the Hamptons. Former President Donald Trump’s former communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, co-hosted the event, according to a flyer, the NY Post uncovered.
The upscale Southampton reception took place at the Capri Hotel and featured a group of co-hosts, including Scaramucci, John Catsimatidis, Todd Shapiro, Charlene Gayle, David Schwartz, Hon. Robert Cornegy, Hon. David Paterson, Victoria Schneps, Vincent Levien, James Malls, Andrew Ansbro, and Michael Pitsinos.
Scaramucci, known as “The Mooch,” made headlines for his brief tenure as Trump’s media spokesperson, which lasted less than two weeks in 2017. Despite his Republican background, Scaramucci has demonstrated a willingness to collaborate with Democrats in New York. He supported Eric Adams during the competitive 2021 mayoral race, where Adams positioned himself as a pragmatic Democrat who values law enforcement and sometimes challenges progressive viewpoints within his party.
While Adams isn’t facing re-election until 2025, Scaramucci’s backing during the fundraiser indicated his continued support for the Democratic mayor. Despite his Republican ties, Scaramucci has shown a willingness to engage with New York’s Democratic leaders. He notably appeared as the first guest on former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s podcast, “As a Matter of Fact … with Andrew Cuomo.”
Scaramucci’s political stance has evolved since his time with the Trump administration. He is currently endorsing Chris Christie, the former Governor of New Jersey, in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, aligning himself against former President Trump. Scaramucci has also voiced concerns about the potential for another Trump term, citing issues related to insecurity and bullying behavior.
In a recent social media post, he shared his thoughts on the divisive nature of American politics, noting that a portion of the country seems to favor a return to power for a figure he described as an “insecure bully.”
Former President Donald Trump and Anthony Scaramucci had a brief and tumultuous relationship during Trump’s presidency. Scaramucci, often referred to as “The Mooch,” served as Trump’s White House Communications Director for less than two weeks in July 2017. However, despite the short duration of his tenure, it was marked by significant controversy and public attention.
Scaramucci’s appointment as Communications Director was met with surprise, given his lack of political experience. He quickly made headlines with his outspoken and confrontational style, often using colorful language to criticize political rivals and members of the Trump administration.
However, his brash approach came to an abrupt end when he was fired by then-Chief of Staff John Kelly after just 11 days in the role. Scaramucci’s dismissal followed an expletive-laden interview he gave to a reporter from The New Yorker, during which he made disparaging comments about other members of the Trump administration.
Since his departure from the White House, Scaramucci has become a vocal critic of Donald Trump. He has spoken out against Trump’s policies and behavior, and he supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Despite his Republican background, Scaramucci’s relationship with Trump soured quickly, and he has since aligned himself with more moderate voices.
