Actress Edie Falco has taken center stage in the political arena once again, hosting a fundraiser for former Democratic Representative Mondaire Jones as he vies to unseat first-term Republican Congressman Michael Lawler in New York’s Hudson Valley, the NY Post reported.
The event, held at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, is tied to a documentary and discussion on “abortion rights” , the main issue pushed in Jones’ campaign against Lawler.
Falco’s involvement in political causes is well-documented, with her recent support for legislation to ban horse carriages in Central Park and endorsements of progressive candidates like Cynthia Nixon and Tahanie Aboushi.
Falco is known for her naive and absurdist political positions, in addition to her former alcoholism and extremist animal rights positions. She is a card carrying member of PETA.
She has also advocated for New York’s sanctuary state status and made contributions to organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America.
Lawler has criticized the fundraiser, portraying it as evidence of Jones’ disconnect from the district. He singled out other left-leaning donors involved in the event, including Anne Hess and Craig Kaplan, founders of the North Star Fund, which supports causes like illegal immigration and opposes aggressive policing.
Lawler’s campaign spokesman, Chris Russell, lambasted Jones as a “defund the police” advocate, alleging that his reliance on extreme left-wing donors reflects an out-of-touch agenda.
Falco, loaded with Hollywood money, will never have to face the ramifications of the extremist policies she supports. Like many in Hollywood, she is extremely talented, but fosters a childish, myopic, worldview.
In response to Lawler’s attacks, Jones’ camp emphasized the importance of the event in rallying pro-choice supporters against Lawler’s anti-abortion stance. Campaign spokeswoman Shannon Geison highlighted Lawler’s voting record on women’s reproductive rights, arguing that his opposition to abortion poses a significant threat. She asserted that residents of New York’s 17th Congressional District are deeply troubled by Lawler’s stance and are determined to reject his candidacy to safeguard reproductive freedoms.
The race between Jones and Lawler has become emblematic of broader ideological divisions within the district. Lawler, a pro-life advocate, faces criticism for his positions on reproductive rights, while Jones, a vocal proponent of abortion on demand seeks to mobilize support from progressive constituents.
Notably, Jones previously represented Hudson Valley but ran for a seat in the tenth Congressional District following redistricting in 2022, ultimately losing in the Democratic primary. Now, he aims to reclaim a foothold in the Hudson Valley, emphasizing issues like abortion rights as key battlegrounds in his campaign against Lawler.
As the campaign heats up, the clash between extremist far left values and conservative principles is poised to define the political landscape of New York’s Hudson Valley.
Mondaire Lamar Jones is an American lawyer and politician who was the U.S. representative for New York’s 17th congressional district from 2021 to 2023. The district included most of central and northwestern Westchester County and all of Rockland County. Jones is one of the two openly gay Black members of Congress in history.
As a member of Congress, Jones was described as a rising star on the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, as per Buzzfeed, after redistricting, he sought election in 2022 in NY’s 10th district after DCCC chair Sean Patrick Maloney chose to run in NY’s 17th congressional district.
